The next morning, you wake up to your phone buzzing at around 4 am. You lazily reach over a stack of pillows and face it towards you. In the cool darkness of the room, the light from your phone temporarily blinds you. You blink and then read the name: Mom. Confused, you pick it up and answer. "Uh hey mom, is something wrong?" "Your sister just got put in the hospital because of a car accident. They just called us a little while ago and we're headed up there right now to see her." Your eyes grow wide with shock. You and your sister had always had a really great relationship and were pretty much best friends for most of your lives (so far). "Is she okay? What happened?" You begin to fear the worst, that they'll show up to the hospital and she'll already be gone or they won't be able to help her. "They said she was in pretty bad condition and that while she has a chance to live it's pretty slim." You sit up, feeling hot tears begin to slide down your face. You were scared for her. "She went over a guard rail and the car basically crushed on top of her. They said she'd lost a lot of blood by the time they got there but the amount she has could be just enough." "Do I need to come home?" "I'll keep you updated honey, we're just getting to the hospital and I want you to try to enjoy the last day or two of your trip alright?" "Okay... please call me if anything happens." "Ok, I will." She hangs up and you slowly lower the phone. You don't know exactly how to feel about this but you wish you were home to see her. You lay back down and spend the rest of the early morning hours crying in the dark as the sun comes up. You don't want to lose her. After a few hours, it's around 8 am, so you get out of bed and wash your face with cold water to make it look less red. You put on some mascara and lip gloss and do double Dutch braids in your hair. You get ready and the first thing on the agenda for the day it to finish out the meet and greets. You find yourselves back at the venue by 9:30 and walking up to the first table at 9:35 because the place is so empty. You and your friend get some pictures with people and meet some more of your favorite creators. It only takes about two hours before they start shutting down the venue. The last few fans are getting pictures and no one is really doing anything anymore. Your friend has to go home early because of her boyfriend's birthday, so she hugs you goodbye, thanks you for taking her, and goes back to the hotel to collect her stuff. You decide to go look for Colby since he said he wanted to hang out. Since the phone call early in the morning, nothing has felt right. Your head hurts and you just feel an odd blankness in your brain. Nothing seems too exciting or fun and you still don't know what to say regarding the situation. You don't really want hang out anymore, just go home and visit your sister. It doesn't take long before you find their table and see that Colby's the only one left at the empty booth. Is he waiting for me? You wave nervously and he smiles upon seeing you. "I didn't think you'd actually show up." "Why wouldn't I?" You guys talk for a couple minutes before you let him lead you to his tour bus. It's really nice on the inside and you lounge on the couch while he puts some stuff away. You're trying not to let him notice that something isn't right because you feel almost sick with worry. He walks past you but slows down and stops to look at you. "Do you feel okay?" "Yeah, why do you ask?" He studies your face for a minute. "Something's bothering you, isn't it?" "Well, kinda." He sits down on the other end of the couch. "Is it something I did?" You shake your head and look away. "My sister got in a really bad car accident this morning and my mom had to call me and tell me about it... she said that she might not live." There's a long silence between you two. You feel heat rising in your chest. You don't want to cry, not on the first time you hang out with Colby. "I'm really sorry to hear that..." "She's like my best friend, I don't understand why it has to be her..." You look at the ground as you feel tears start running down your face again. You sniff and wipe your cheek. You feel sort of embarrassed to be crying but there's nothing you can really do. You stand up and walk a few steps away, with your back turned to him. You try to get yourself under control and back to normal but fail miserably. "I know you don't really know me all that well but... I'm here for you. I know what it's like to be scared for someone you love." You turn to see him standing as well, looking a little shy. He seems to want to help but doesn't really know how. You take a step closer, and within a couple seconds find yourself walking right into his arms. You just hug him, feeling a painful surge of emotion rush through you. He seems surprised that you hugged him but eventually wraps his arms around you tightly. "Everything's going to be okay. She'll make it through, I promise." You hug him for a seemingly long time before you let go and back up. He smiles nervously. "The real reason I invited you here is just because I wanted to let you know that I thought you were so perfectly beautiful and I was going to ask you out, but when you got here I sort of freaked out and didn't say what I meant to. I'm sorry I had to ruin it like that." "That's okay, I'm sorry I'm such a mess right now." "Don't worry about it. You're going through a lot, I get it." To hear him say that was oddly comforting and you smiled as you wiped the last tears off your face. "And on that offer to date you, I'll take it." He smiles, almost in disbelief. "Really?" "Uh-huh."
