The slivers of light filtering through the blinds seem to burn at your forehead and eyes through closed lids. It makes your fuzzy headache worsen considerably, and with slow movements you push yourself farther under the comforter and deeper into the pillow. You pat around, checking for your phone. Seeing the battery at thirteen percent and a slew of unread texts and missed calls, you sigh and drop it lightly back on the nightstand before dropping your head back to the mattress.
Blocking out the sun helps, but it's still so hot. This comforter traps heat in a way that feels like you're being slow roasted. You rub your face numbly, knowing that you're still wearing last night's mascara and (hopefully) still have your hair tie in.
Last night had been a hazy memory, but a good one from what you could still remember. Drinks, a lot of people, red Solo cups strewn everywhere. Sam getting thrown into the pool, Colby jumping in after him, Aaron tripping down the stairs and spilling three drinks at once.
Colby.
Where was he, anyway? You and Colby had talked only a few times that night, but you caught his eyes on you more times than you could count from what you could remember of last night.
You rub your forehead again, wishing to suppress the buzzing ache of too much alcohol. You carefully stretch, being mindful of aches and pains that could likely tell the story of what happened last night. Your let your elbow drop back down to the bed, but instead hit something.
"Ow!"
You startle and draw a sharp inhale. Quickly, you whip your head around to find yourself inches away from Colby's face.
The shock in his eyes mirrors that of yours. He stops rubbing his jaw and stares at you.
Your eyes drop to the comforter on top of you; it's a charcoal gray. Your bed has a white comforter.
You feel something folded around your waist, and slowly lift the comforter that is not your own to reveal his arm wrapped around your bare hips, holding you against him.
Without dropping the comforter, you snap your eyes back to Colby. He blinks, the air between you radiating with confusion.
"Colby... did we-"
"I think so."
You groan and pinch the bridge of your nose as you turn to lay on your back. He lays still beside you, unsure of what to do, but doesn't remove his arm.
"How long have we been up here?"
"You think I have any fucking clue?! The sun is up Colby. I came to the party yesterday when the sun went down."
He sighs and rubs his cheek. You turn your face towards him and he meets your eyes.
"Colby, I'm sorry. I'll go, we can forget last night ever happened and nobody has to know about this."
He just shakes his head. You crease your brow, not understanding. You and Colby were just friends. You had felt like something of this nature was bound to happen eventually, but you hoped it wouldn't mess up what the two of you had already been working on. You had a great dynamic as friends and were just as drawn to each other in any setting.
"Don't be sorry. I don't regret a single thing about last night."
You feel his fingers squeeze into your hips briefly and can't help but notice a hint of playfulness in his eyes.
"Colby! You are awful, really."
The sly smile that plays at his lips drives you crazy.
"I didn't regret it then, and I don't regret it now, seeing as you're wearing nothing but my shirt in my bed this morning."
A hot blush flushes your face and you cover your eyes with one hand. Colby chuckles.
"And you haven't seen awful yet, Y/N." He presses teasing kisses to your collarbone and your neck. You laugh to yourself and feign pushing his face away from you.
"Colby!"
He laughs and props himself up just above your face. He is all sorts of coy and frisky this morning.
"Sounded good when you whined that last night too."
"Did it?"
You slide your hands across his shoulders and run your fingers through his hair and up the back of his neck. He shivers.
"Y/N. Don't you dare."
You laugh briefly but are interrupted by Colby using one hand to push you underneath him better and the other to move your hair out of the way to hungrily leave his marks on you.
"Colby! You can-"
Footsteps came rapidly up the stairs and to the door, and before either of you could react the door had flung open and Sam was standing there with wide eyes.
"Uhhh... I did not know you guys were... a thing."
Colby froze on top of you and looked towards Sam. The silence in the room was thick and terribly noticeable.
"Um... sorry you... had to find out this way?"
Sam burst out laughing and Colby's face reddened. You looked up at Colby and broke out in laughter too.
"The next time this door is shut I'll remember not to come near it. All I had to say was there's breakfast downstairs, if you guys want some."
You thanked Sam, who went, laughing, back downstairs after he shut the door.
Colby was still tomato-red and just slightly shook his head, still frozen above you. He wraps his arm under your back, which prompts you to hold tighter to his neck as he lays back down and pulls you closer to him.
"Remind me to fix that lock."
