You meet Colby's eyes, and instantly you can tell he's having a hell of a time trying to take all this in still.
"This is just... I really can't believe this. I never in a million years thought that this could be for real."
     You nod and smile.
"Now that you know, you have to promise me that you won't go telling anybody."
     "Why not?"
"As I said, they'll kill me and hurt you for associating with me. It's not a risk I'm willing to take for either of us. Just please don't say anything about it."
     He nods slowly.
     "I won't. I swear."
     "Good."
There's a bit of silence as he thinks about it. You watch a fish swim up underneath the dock and come back out after a little while.
"Is there a way that I could meet any of...the others?"
"Oh sure. As long as you stick with me you'll be fine."
"Really? Like I'm not gonna get possessed or die?"
     You laugh.
     "No. You'll be okay."
He smiles. You're happy that he isn't freaking out about this.
You hear the door of the house open in the distance and some people come out. They're walking your way.
"I gotta go, meet me tomorrow at my place. I have more things to talk about with you."
     "Wait-
You shift into a moth and quickly make your escape before anyone notices you. Once you get to the street, you switch back to your human form and start walking back to your house, which was a street or two away.
time skip to next day
You make a light breakfast in the morning and turn on the tv. Colby would probably be here soon, and you didn't really feel like calling Brennen to let him know you were home so you just text him.
As expected, Colby knocks on the door around fifteen minutes later and you go let him in.
He sits on the couch and you sit on the recliner.
"So what was it you needed me here for?"
"Things regarding the whole supernatural world. So you don't get hurt."
     He gives a tiny smirk.
"How come you're so worried about me getting hurt?"
"Just... because. It doesn't matter. What does matter is that you listen to what we're about to talk about."
     He laughs.
"First things first; the things that I can show you and introduce you to are going to be scary. As a human, it's going to be terrifying. If you're nervous or don't like something, it's okay. I can get you out of there at any time but you HAVE to stay by me. Always."
     He nods.
"Secondly, I need you to know that these things can and will kill you. They do it every day and they're good at it. You have to be respectful and careful."
     He nods again.
He has a sort of blank stare but he's looking directly at you.
You snap your fingers and he seems to come back to reality.
"Did you hear anything I just said?"
"Yeah, about the be careful and it's scary and whatever... did you know you look really pretty today?"
"What?"
"You just look really pretty."
"Uh, thank you."
He flashes a quick smile and you furrow your brow. It was evident that he was probably not paying attention as well as he should be.
      "Colby."
      "Yes?"
"Are you sure that you're listening? This stuff is pretty important."
      He laughs.
"I'm listening. You're just distracting today."
You offer your best sarcastic glare, and get up from the recliner. Moving to the kitchen, you take a glass from the cabinet and wait while the refrigerator fills it up with water. Colby's lack of concern about your discussion irritated you, but also intrigued you in a way. Maybe he really had no idea the danger that he could put himself in. Or maybe he did.
