I walked into the house with Coleton in my arms. Louis and Stan were carrying the stroller, playpen, and other things he had taken this weekend, and putting them in the dining room.

“Alright that’s everything” Stan said walking back into the foyer where I was standing.

“Okay, how was he this weekend?” I asked

“Fine, I can see he’s talking a lot more, and really starting to walk” he said

‘well if you spent more time around you would have known that’ I thought but I kept it to myself. I just nodded.

“Did you feed him yet?”

“Yeah but he didn’t eat much”

“Okay I’ll try feeding him”

“Well I’m gonna get going”

“Can you say bye to daddy?” I asked Coleton who was starting to fall asleep on my shoulder

“Bye Bye” he said with his head pressed against me.

“Bye Buddy! I’ll see you soon” Stan said

I walked him over to the door and said “Thanks for having him this weekend”

“Yup, Bye Leah. Tell Louis I’ll talk to him later” and then he walked out the door.

I sighed and walked back into the kitchen, placing Coleton in his highchair. I started making him a sandwich when I heard Louis walk in.

“And whose this handsome little man?” he said kneeling next to his highchair

I finished making his dinner and pulled a chair up next to him and placed it in front of him. “Can you say hi to Uncle Louis?”

“Nnnno” Coleton giggled taking a bite of his dinner

I pretended to be surprised and said “No?!” and held my hands up. “Come on say hi to Uncle Louis. Please for mommy?”

He turned his little head to Louis and said “Lou Lou” but it came out like ‘you you’

Louis laughed and gave him a little kiss on the forehead “I missed you buddy”

After dinner my mom and I were cleaning up while Louis played with Coleton in the other room. When I was all done I walked in and felt a push against my legs. I looked down and say my little boy with his arms in the air, signaling he wanted me to pick him up.

When I picked him up I could tell he was about to fall asleep. He was getting fussy in my arms. I walked up the stairs and Louis grabbed all his bags I had given to Stan and followed me upstairs.

We walked into the blue bedroom that was across from mine. After a little struggle changing him, I layed him down in his crib and turned off the lights, leaving the door part way open.

I walked into my room, getting all the books I would need for school tomorrow together. “You don’t have to take him to daycare tomorrow. I could watch him” I heard from behind me.

Louis was standing in the doorway leaning against the wall. “I don’t want to ruin your day” I said to him.

He walked in and sat on my bed. “I think I’ll be fine. I don’t have any plans”

“Okay. Well I only have 2 classes tomorrow. 10AM and a noon class. I should be home around 2”

“That’s perfect.” Louis smiled

“Okay. And you know if anything happens, I mean the slightest thing. You can call me. Please don’t heisitate” I said looking him in the eye

“I know I know! It will all be good. We use to babysit kids all the time when we were younger. Plus I need to hangout with Cole. We need some man on man time”

I laughed “Oh really, do you?”

“Yes! he needs to see just how awesome his uncle you you is”

I laughed and continued to get all my stuff together.

After a few moments of silence Louis said “How often does Stan take him for the weekend?”

I stared at him for a second before responding “Once a month at best. But its usually every 2 months. I offer him to let me know when he wants to. He never does. So I usually just plan it out for every month or every 3 weeks. But he cancels at lot. So its been every 2 months for a while. Almost since he was born.”

I sat there remembering I had the first time I had talked to Stan about that.

Flash back:

I was sitting there. Holding my 4 month old baby in my arms. Stan had told me he would be at my house an hour ago. He was taking our son for the night. The first night he would ever spend with Coleton.

I finally saw the headlight pull into the driveway.

He knocked on the door and I answered it.

“Why do you look pissed?” he questioned

“Are you really asking me that? Its been over an hour. You told me you would be here this time.” I said shifting the baby in my arms,

“Chill out! I’m a little late, its not the end of the world”

“Well if you had been responsible, and came on time or even told me you were gonna be late then I wouldn’t care. But you see Stan, you never do any of that. You cancel or you don’t show up at all. This is the first time you have actually semi-kept your plan. So sorry if I am a little angry” I said, trying to calm down because I didn’t want to wake Cole

“Well sorry I don’t want to babysit all the time” he said taking some of the bags and putting them around his shoulder.

“Its not babysitting when its your own kid! Its called seeing him so he knows who is father is and taking some responsibility and not leaving it all on me” I said truthfully

“Sorry if I have other plans sometimes.”

I was getting furious “You always have other plans, or something going on. Maybe you should grow up and get your priorities straight. Missing one or two nights of parties and hanging out with the guys isn’t the end of the world. Not seeing your own child, well that’s bad because he never sees you!”

End of flash back

That fight had ended bad. Cole had ended up not even going to Stans that night. I wouldn’t let him and he just stormed out.

Since then I have told him he could come see Coleton any time. And he could take him for the weekend. But he never does. I have to beg for him to spend the weekend with his own son. I want my son to at least know he has a father.

I turned to Louis and said “Thank you!”

He gave me a questioning look and I said “For not letting out problems get in the way of you caring about Coleton. And for offering to look after him tomorrow. It saves me a lot of money”

I felt Louis hug me. “It’s gonna be fine. I’m gonna talk to Stan tomorrow. And then you guys can talk. Plus its not problem. I love the little guy. I haven’t seen him in a while but that’s not his fault.”

Later that night I closed my eyes and hoped that Stan would be ready to talk tomorrow because I sure was.
