"I know I am but summer to your heart, And not the full four seasons of the year."
~Edna St. Vincent Millay

Too soon, the tour ended and the five teens returned to Australia in mid-June to help with the wedding preparations.

"You know you know me for more then a year already?"

The two blondes were lying on Ava's bed as they were waiting for the rest of the band to arrive.

"And you haven't yet fried my brain. Who would have thought?"

Luke hit his step sister playfully as they were both laughing. Even if they weren't blood related, the looked and felt like they were. As long as Michael stayed out of the conversation.

"How long till they come?"

Luke checked his phone.

"About two hours."

"Movie?"

The boy nodded and the pair opened a computer and had a small fight about the movie before eventually picking The great Gatsby. Not even half an hour in Ava fell asleep on Luke's shoulder and she slept there until Michael woke her up with a kiss.

"Morning sunshine."

As soon as Ava opened her eyes and her black haired boyfriend she threw her arms around his neck and pulled him down, making him fall straight onto her and consequently on Luke who just whined from sudden extra weight. Michael's face ended up inches away from Luke's and both boys felt the uncomfortable bolts between them. Some quick glances of each other's lips were exchanged before Michael lifted himself of and allowed Luke to escape from underneath. As the blonde was leaving a room, a look between him and the green eyed boy lingered in the air. As soon as he left, Michael devoted all of his attention to his girlfriend but somehow his mind managed to escape to his former best friend more and more often.

Ashton, Luke, Arzaylea, Calum, Michael and Ava were sitting around one table as everyone else was dancing around.

"Want to go dance?"

Ava furrowed her eye brows and shook her head.

"I don't dance."

Still, the black haired boy tugged on her hand and made a begging look. Ava's response didn't change, instead Michael asked someone else.

"Luke, will you go dance with me?"

Ava looked at Ashton who looked at Calum who looked at Arzaylea who looked at Luke who just stared blankly into Michael that stared back. Everyone sat in silence until Arzaylea pushed Luke towards Michael.

"What are you waiting for? Go have fun."

Luke looked at her and she seemed sure which indicated to everyone else that she had no clue about their past. But still Luke didn't need to be asked twice to actually follow Michael and so they left for the dance floor and everyone looked at the black haired girl.

"What? Luke loves dancing and I just don't feel like it so he should dance with his best friend. Or am I wrong?"

Both of the still remaining boys shook their heads and looked away, but the blonde girl stared blankly in front of her. They were best friends. That's all they were, right? No matter how many times Ava repeated that, she still didn't believe it.

"I'm gonna take a walk."

"I'll come with you."

"Then I want to come too."

"Actually Arzaylea I wanted to talk to you about Luke's birthday so could you stay here with me?"

Arzaylea sat back down and nodded at Calum while Ashton and Ava left for the walk.

"They are just best friends."

"You don't sound sure."

Ashton bit his lip and looked at the floor. He wanted to be sure, but with those boys he couldn't had been.

"And now the tour is over and I won't see any of you for like a year and-"

And Ava's voice broke. She sat on the floor in the middle of the pavement and buried her face in her palms. Ashton sat next to her and pulled her into a hug she didn't even resist.

"They love each other don't they?"

"Well they are best friends so they certainly-"

"You know how I mean it."

Ashton swallowed hard and nodded but quickly added.

"Yeah but Mike is in love with you. If he wasn't he wouldn't have told Luke that he was. I'm sure of that."

"But, he isn't over Luke."

It took a second before Ashton nodded.

"But he wouldn't cheat on you or anything."

The sound that left Ava's mouth was somewhere between a sob and a scoff.

"Look Luke was...is his first love and of there is anything that is true, it is true that you always remember your first love. If you want it or not."

"I get it but I feel like Mike wants more then just remember Luke."

Ashton squeezed his friend firmly into his chest and kissed the top of her head.

"He's in love with you. You and only you. But it is true that forgetting the one he loved so much for quite long won't ever go away completely."

The girl stayed quiet as she didn't know what to reply. She didn't get the feeling as she had never been in love before.

"You know we all have that someone we'll never really get over. That someone towards who the feelings will never truly die no matter what we do. And we all have to live with that every day of our lives. And yes, it does get hard at times like when they get mentioned in the media, or if they post a photo and it's probably unimaginably hard if the person used to be your best friend and is still there every day of your life but you just have to resist the urge to follow your heart."

And all though Ava never felt that before, she had a sneaky suspicion Michael would be the one she'd feel like that towards once whatever it is between them comes to an end. Then Ashton and Ava sat in silence for a long time before either of them spoke again.

"Ashton?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you think Michael wants to resist being with Luke?"

Just as the curly haired boy opened his mouth and tried saying something encouraging, Ava interrupted him like she felt he wasn't about to be 100% honest.

"And don't lie."

Ashton closed his mouth and contemplated his answer one more time before speaking.

"Honestly? I don't think Michael knows what he wants. At least not entirely."

Ava nodded with tears in her eyes. She didn't want Ashton knowing she cared so deeply for Michael to the point just talking like that about him made her cry. But she didn't know that everyone around her knew just how much she cared for the rainbow haired boy.

"We should get back."

Ashton nodded and the pair walked back to the wedding in silence where they saw the other four sitting around the table. As they walked in all heads turned to them and Ashton just took Ava's hand and they sat down opposite to everyone else. Arzaylea looked confused over what was happening, Calum just gave Ava a supportive/worried look, Luke tugged on his lip ring and didn't make eyes contact and Michael tried desperately to meet Ava's eyes but the blonde just wasn't having it as she leaned onto Ashton's shoulder and closed her eyes. She was fully aware how this might had looked to everyone but the only thing that mattered to her was the way it felt to her. And it felt right and uplifting.
