"The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb."
~R. Richard Pustelniak

Finally the evening when Ava, Sydney and Noah were able to leave Bali came. The three teens packed their stuff and almost got into a car when Luke ran up to them.

"Hey, I need to talk to you before you leave."

Ava agreed and the pair went slightly away from the other two just to talk things through. Or so did Luke thought.

"I'm so sorry for the way this all went down. It was never part of the plan for it to end like this..."

Ava scoffed and Luke literally shivered because of the intense stare of her eyes.

"Part of the plan? What plan Luke? How could things possibly have ended otherwise? You were hooking up with my boyfriend who is accidentally your best friend and your ex while having a girlfriend. Really, how on earth could this end any other way then like a total atomic bomb for every single one of us?"

Luke started tugging on his lip ring intensely but Ava didn't drop the deadly stare one bit. Eventually Luke collected enough courage to actually respond to his blonde step sister.

"I don't know. I just...I didn't want you to get hurt. You are my step sister and...-"

He was cut off as soon as Ava heard the step sister.

"Yeah I am your step sister and I don't know why I believed that actually meant something to you. I don't know why I believed it meant enough to not do this to me but I was wrong. Even before we were step siblings I was there for you. Last summer when you were confused and lost and everything...I was there for you. And if you would have told me dating Michael hurt you too much, I wouldn't start dating him in the first place because being someone sister, even if it is just step sister, means something to me. Family means something to me. But apparently it doesn't mean anything to you and if this is the way you want to roll, I'm down for it now. From now on, you being my step brother means as much to me as whether or not Michael changes. You are both less then nothing to me. Now excuse me, I have a plane to catch."

Luke was left stunned standing as his step sister walked into a cab that would then take her to the airport. He heard Ava say multiple times that she either cared about people or she didn't give a flying fuck about them. She told him she never ever disliked anyone ever because that meant still giving them the energy and the attention they so desperately craved, even if in form of insults. But he never thought, he would ever end up on the 'don't give a fuck about you' side. He always believed that no matter what would go down between him, Michael and the blonde girl, she would always forgive him because they were family but he was wrong. He knew crossing Ava was a dangerous thing but he had never before seen just how emotionless his step sister can be. The way she told him she didn't care about him anymore was said with such cold, robotic tone, Luke was party convinced she was a robot. His eyes teared up and he couldn't hold it in any longer. He fell onto the floor and cried his heart out. Soon a familiar arm hugged him.

"Go away Michael. We can't be..-"

"Shh, I know. And we are as over as Ava and I are but you are still my best friend. And I still care about you. Always and forever Lukey."

That was enough to make Luke collapse into Michael and to let his red haired best friend comfort him.

"She literally doesn't give a fuck about me. Life-like at all and-"

"It'll be okay...I promise. She's just hurt and reasonably so. But she is your step sister and she is smart so eventually, she will put me behind you two and move on."

"I hope so."

Luke was still crying as Ava was boarding her plane. Neither of her friends knew how to talk to her or what to say because they weren't used to the blonde acting this way. Sure, Sydney met Ava when she was like that in high school but even then she never knew how to talk to her and Noah literally never encountered Ava while she was acting like that. So both of them were kind of walking behind her and just awkwardly sat beside her.

"Are you planning on ever forgiving Luke?"

Ava rolled her eyes at the boy.

"You ever planning on talking about anything else?"

Noah wanted to respond but Ava's eyes gave him an uneasy feeling and he rather stayed quiet. Then Sydney gave talking to her friend a shot.

"So...how are you?"

"Peachy. I was cheated on by the first guy I actually ever liked with my step brother who is my now ex's best friend and an ex. So just peachy."

Different to Noah, Sydney wasn't a person to stay quiet.

"Okay yeah this sucks but you can stop being a total bitch to us, who literally did nothing but been there for you ever since it happened and even before that. So yeah, I get that you're hurt, and angry and sad and all that but you could at least stop acting like a total ass to people who did nothing you. Don't think that I don't have my limit so don't take friendships for granted or you will end up alone. And I can guarantee you that you will hate it now that you know what being close with people feels like."

Then, Sydney moved away from Ava and sat down next to a random dude who had an empty chair next to him. Noah just looked at Ava and then moved a sit away as well, leaving the blonde to think about everything on her own.
