I stole the stars from the sky last night.
pinned them to my hair and basked in their light.
this world is already full of so much darkness, so why should I encourage
it to grow?

I think we are all a little bit broken, a little frayed.
but as long as the sun still dangles from sprawling, cloudless skies,
we will live and we will learn to thrive.
I will learn to thrive even while residing
upon the harshest of terrains.

as I drift off to sleep,
I will dream of all the oceans
I have yet to cross.
for I am on a journey and I do not intend
to harbour my ship just yet.

though we are born into this world
with the promise of death around our necks,
I will breathe life into my lungs
every change I get.
