Chapter 9

Starfires POV

I woke up and found myself in a chair. It seemed to be made especially for me. I couldn't use my starbolts and my strength was useless. I looked around to see an awakening Robin to my left and Slade in front of both of us.

"So I see that you found out a way to communicate with each other." He then electrocuted us both to punish us. "I told you no talking, didn't I Starfire." Slade walked over toward me lifted my chin.

"Get away from her," Robin demanded.

He walked away from me and bent over so he would be at eye level with Robin.

"I don't think you should be talking to your new leader like that." He once again electrocuted Robin.

"What are you talking about?"

"You see, you two are my new apprentices and you'll be helping me take over the world."

"We'll never help you," I yelled. Slade electrocuted me again.

"The problem with that is... you don't have a choice. I had chambers and rooms created for this situation. If one of you refuses to obey, the other will just simply be put in one of these room puzzles and could possibly be terminated. The worst part is I will make you watch. Some of these room puzzles involve both of you though but these puzzles would only be used for punishment because I wouldn't want to lose both of my apprentices."

I felt weak. There wasn't anything I could do to stop Slade and I would have to fight my friends.

Slade sent us back to our cells and we sat in silence still quite surprised and sad. I felt bad for Robin because he had been through this already but now he was going to have his mind set on keeping me safe at the same time. I knew this would most likely be the end.

Robins POV

Star and I had our first mission as apprentices. We had to infiltrate a safe house for dangerous weapons. We had to steal all we could in order to not be punished. Star and I had to obviously change our clothes because we were no longer heroes... we were crooks.

We ran to the warehouse where all these weapons were. Star couldn't use her powers because of her emotions. I begged her to really try because I knew if she didn't she would be punished. She had told me before that her strength comes from confidence, her starbolts from anger, and flight from her joy. I knew... I could see in her eyes that she had no confidence, anger or joy. She just felt empty. She was probably angry at Slade but she was just sad and hurt that she would have to fight her friends and the feelings she had towards captivity.

I kicked down the door and both of us fought the guards hand to hand combat style. After we defeated the guards, we gathered everything we could carry and ran towards the door. Before we could go out... the rest of the Titans showed up. We tried going out another exit but they blocked them all. I looked at Starfire. She looked at me and instantly knew what I was thinking. She nodded and we both looked back at the Titans. We dropped everything and ran towards them. I used some explosives that Slade gave to me to replace my birdarang. I threw them towards their feet as warnings... maybe they would go away without us actually having to fight us. They kept throwing light attacks on us but we kept dodging. I could hear from the other side of my earpiece that Slade was getting impatient so I grabbed Star's hand and ran to the middle of the room where we had dropped the weapons and we stood there. The Titans were slowly walking toward us. We picked up everything and we stood there. I could tell Star was still pretty nervous because fidgeting with my hand. At the right moment, I threw a smoke bomb and we ran out of the building and back to base. When we got back I realized we were still tightly holding each other's hands. At the same time, we both looked down at our hands and nervously separated. We stood in front of Slade as he examined the weapons we stole. He stood up slowly but in a blink of an eye, he grabbed stars arm and yanked her toward the chair. She couldn't do anything but struggle.

"So I see that you don't care to use your powers. Is it because you don't want to work for me?"

"N-no!"
