Six years later

The rumors traveled fast around the village, there were a group of people attacking other kingdoms. They called themselves Hydra and your father was doing his best to protect his family and his people from them. You were all having dinner together, when one of the guards entered the room running and scared, he spoke directly to your father.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, your majesty. There's someone who wants to talk with you. It's urgent." the guard was shaking as your father looked at him clearly worried by his suddenly interruption.

"Who's that?" your father asked, and you all were surprised by a wounded Steve Rogers, standing in the room. Your eyes widened and your heart sank at his words.

"Your majesty, we've been under attack. Everything was destroyed. They were too many, we tried to stop them but-" his voice died in it's tracks and your hands trembled.

"James? Is he alright?" your voice broke into a sob as you stood up from your chair. Peggy placed her hand on yours, trying to calm you down.

"He's alive, your highness. Can't say the same about the king and queen. It was an ambush. We couldn't protect the castle." Steve lowered his head, ashamed.

"That's terrible news. We need to help them, Edward." your mother spoke, tears filled her eyes.

"Get the horses and the carriage ready. We're leaving tonight. You stay with your mother, (Y/N)." your father ordered but you shook your head.

"No, father. James needs me. I'm going with you." you left the dinner table, running towards your bedroom to get ready.

After two days traveling, all you found on the way was death. The village was devastaded, it broke your heart to see so many people suffering like that. You held hands with your mother as you finally went through the castle's gates. Your eyes searching for James immediately but he was nowhere to be found.

"He's in the garden, your highness." one of the guards said.

"Thank you." you looked at Peggy. "Go, we'll be fine." she mouthed and you walked to the gardens. The same place you and James used to play as kids.

You found him there, standing in front of his parents graves. The pain of seeing James was like a knife cutting through your chest. You walked towards him but he remained stoic, eyes glued on the ground.

"I'm really sorry for lost, James." you spoke as your hand rested on his forearm.

"It was my fault, (Y/N). I should've been here to protect them." his voice was cold and bitter, guilty covered his features.

"Don't say that, Bucky. I'm sure you did everything you could." you reassured him.

"They'll pay for this. I'll find them and kill them all. I promise you this." He said more to his parents.

"Bucky, please. Revenge won't take you anywhere." you pleaded, taking his hand on yours.

"You should leave, princess. It's not safe here."

Those were his final words before he walked towards the castle, leaving you behind.
