The war is mercyless and as much as Bucky missed you by his side he knew that was the right decision to make. When he was surrounded by death you were the only one who could make him feel alive and safe. This time wasn't different.

As he held his sword in front of him and walked through dead bodies he thought about you. Your smile as soon as your eyes meet his, your gentle touches on his skin, the way you say his name when you're both tangled to each other under the sheets. He smiled slightly before shaking his head and focus on the task in his hand. His kingdom was suffering and it was up to him to end this war.

"You should go back to the castle, Bucky. It's not safe for you here." Steve suggested as he looked for any sign of a threat.

"I'm not leaving, Steve. This is my duty too."

One thing every guard knew was that King James is stubborn. No one would change his mind, not his best friend, not even you. They walked side by side, Hydra left a trail of destruction behind but they were almost defeated. With the help from other kingdoms they were easily controlled but the war always left its marks and Bucky knew that his people would suffer before seeing the sun shining again upon them.

"Where's Pierce? I wouldn't mind killing that bastard with my own hands." Bucky said but he was taken aback when a little child ran towards them, searching for her mother. He went down to her level holding her arms.

"Are you lost my dear?" the little girl nodded and he couldn't avoid to think about you and his own daughter.

"Steve, take her back to her home." Bucky ordered but Steve protested.

"We can't do this right now, Buck. It's dangerous."

"I can take care of myself. Go, I'll be fine."

Suddenly Bucky was surrounded by two men. One he knew pretty well, Pierce.

"You shouldn't be here all by yourself, your majesty."

"Using a child to distract us. Wouldn't expect less from Hydra."

"Maybe we could use your child instead? The queen is almost giving birth I suppose?" The other man spoke and when he mentioned you Bucky couldn't held back anymore.

"Don't you dare to say another word about my family." Bucky said pointing his sword at the man's throat.

"You can avoid this fight, Barnes. You just need to surrender and give Hydra the lands that are already ours by right." Pierce continued. "I don't want to give orders for Rumlow to kill you and your dear queen."

"It will be my honor to kill you. Both of you." Bucky said.

"You can try, your majesty." Rumlow said mockingly.

After that moment everything happened fast. As Bucky approached them with his sword he was fearless and he would do everything to defend his kingdom and his family. Rumlow pressed his body against a tree and Bucky fought to breath. Bucky tried to block him with his arm, but Rumlow's sharp blade was already deep down the flash of his left arm.

"You can't put up a fight against me, Barnes. You're dumb to even try." he mocked again but Bucky slid his hand on his armor grabbing his knife.

"You talk too much." Bucky said between greeted teeth before sliding the knife into Rumlow's stomach. His eyes startled and he backed away, looking at his own blood on his hands. Not longer after that, Rumlow fell to his knees, his body already lifeless.

"I have to say, your reputation preceeds you, king James." Pierce said approaching Bucky.

"You leave us alone or I'll hunt you down and kill you."

"I'm afraid I can't do what you're asking me, your majesty." he smirked, defying Bucky.

But Pierce was surprised by Steve who got his sword through his body immediately.

"Are you alright, Bucky?" Steve asked him.

"Right on time, brother. I'm fine, just a little dizzy." Bucky felt to the ground as Steve ran towards him, trying to help him stand up.

"Are you hurt?"

"It's my arm I think. Rumlow put up a real fight." he chuckled as Steve checked on his left arm.

"It looks like a poison." Steve said as he saw the black veins on Bucky's arm.

"That bastard! His sword was poisoned." Bucky took a deep breath feeling the pain only getting worse.

"We need to go to see the Wanda. He's the only one that can help you." Steve help Bucky to stand up and get a horse for their journey to Wanda's cabin.
