Most of your days were spent in the garden or at the castle's library. Bucky had a tremendous amount of books and you realized that it was one of his mother's passion. While he was at meetings or training the guards, you would lock yourself in there, reading for hours, immersed in the world of fantasies or in the beauty of the healing practice. It was one of your favorites topics. Every night, you only left to join James for dinner and then you both would go separate ways to sleep in your respective chambers. Most of the nights you felt cold and lonely and you couldn't help but wonder if he felt the same way. The walls James built around him were apparently impossible to get through but you wouldn't give up. Not yet.

As you walked outside the castle, James was training alone with his sword. He moved like the weight of his sword was a feather and you watched him mesmerized. His white shirt was half opened, you could see a peek of his muscles and chest hair, he was beautifully built. His forehead was dripping sweat and you walked towards him holding a bucket of water. He finally stopped, realizing your presence and a hint of a smile on his face.

"It's pretty hot here, you should take a break, James." you suggested and he dropped his sword, walking closer to you. He took the bucket from your hands, splattering the water on his face. His cheeks sporting a bright shade pink.

"Thank you, (Y/N). Don't worry about me, I'm fine." there were the walls again.

"Why are you always acting like a war is about to begin? Are we in such a danger everyday?" you asked and he laughed, now drinking some of the water.

"I need to protect the kingdom and you. I would die before letting someone hurt you, my queen." his words took your breath away for a split second. You smiled and James ran his fingers through his long hair, taking his sword on hands again.

"Teach me how to fight." you suggested and Bucky looked at you before his laughter filled the space between you two.

"Are you insane, (Y/N)? Of course not!" shaking his head and you crossed your arms in front of your chest.

"I have to know how to defend myself when you're not around. Teach me." you insisted.

"Allright, princess." he smiled again and you felt that weird sensation in your stomach, a glimpse of the boy he used to be in front of your eyes. He held out one of his knives for you to take.

"Now you have to hold it like this. You'll use your wrist mostly and you need to be fast." he stood behind you, giving you the instructions and holding your hand firmly, showing you how to do it. You tried your best to pay attention while his warm breath on your skin made you shiver.

"That's easy." you stated and James snorted incredulously.

"Are you mocking me, my king?" you pointed the knife to him, Bucky looked at you amused.

"Be careful with that. You have to aim for the heart or neck," he explained, pointing to his own body. "Or here on the leg. There's an artery here, your attacker will lost all of his blood and die. Fast." you nodded.

"Don't forget to not hesitate, it's important. We can practice more if you want." he held your wrist, caressing the top of your hand.

"I would love to, Bucky."
