Prologue: Beginnings
Nico's POV
I sit at the beach, my back to the trees and I take a deep breath. The salt air fills my lungs and just reminds me of what I can't have. It's not terrible remembering that, but it stings... like salt in a wound. Pun unintended.
I guess being the son of Hades, I should be used to losing things. Death is the quintessential idea of loss. Thankfully I haven't lost him but in a way, I have. I shouldn't be too terribly sad, I have been holding out this long, haven't I? Supposedly I've felt this way for a long time... I am used to this. If you feel it all the time, can you really call it pain? I heard that in a song once... 3 AM searches on YouTube, blame the internet.
Another thing, there's a new type of wifi here at camp half-blood. Thank Gods, otherwise I don't really know how any of the teenagers here at Camp would survive. Back to my pity party on the beach-
"Hey, Nico," Leo sits down next to me.
"Leo," I reply. I don't need to even bother looking at him, he reeks of life.
"What's got your pretty face in such an ugly expression?" He teases.
"If you continue with your attempts at flirting, I will be forced to take drastic measures," I sigh.
"So you do admit we are currently flirting?" Leo smirks. "I didn't know you watched 50% off."
"I shouldn't, but I do," I sigh. "Free is anime fanservice and I guess it's something all people must fall for at some point."
"Right, right... what was I here for...?" Leo asks after a second. "Oh, yeah, it's dinner time."
"Not hungry."
"But you're never hungry," Leo whines.
"Leo," I say through clenched teeth. "I don't want to go."
Leo leaves me after a hasty goodbye. I sigh softly and close my eyes.
The salt air reminds me of what I can't have. As the son of Hades, I supposed I should just be used to that.
His name is Percy Jackson.
