"Jack?"

Rye knocked on his door. Receiving no verbal response, he opened it slightly, peering into the room. The curtains were closed and the lights off, plunging the room into darkness. Very vaguely, he could see the outline of Jack on his bed, face down into the pillow. He frowned, his heart breaking to see his best friend like this.

He stalked in the room, drawing the curtains open and ripping the cover off Jack, ignoring all the brunettes protests.

"No. Get up. We're going on a drive" Rye stated sternly, shooting him a look that clearly wasn't taking no for an answer. He threw Jack some clothes and walked off, giving him a five minutes warning to get dressed or would drag him out in whatever he was wearing.

Rye stood by the front door, beaming when a disgruntled Jack walked down, pulling his hood up and glaring at the older boy. Rye smirked in response and led the way to his car, getting in. He waited for Jack to follow before driving off.

They drove around all afternoon before finally reaching the pier. Rye parked on a cliff edge, overlooking the sea as the sun was beginning to set. Yellows were mixing with the reds and pinks as the sun disappeared beneath the horizon.

"You ready to talk to me yet?" Rye questioned, breaking the deafening silence that had fallen in the car. Rye glanced over at Jack, who still had his hood up and eyes trained on the outside, seeming as though he hadn't even heard Rye.

Rye sighed in defeat. He had hoped isolating themselves from the house and the rest of the boys would have gotten Jack to open up, but he was wrong. He went to start the car up; to take them home.

"She broke up with me" His voice was small and almost inaudible, but Rye still heard him. Rye looked back over to Jack, but still, his eyes wouldn't meet his own.

"Oh. Why?" He asked gently. Jack shrugged and Rye swore he saw tears falling down his cheeks.

"She didn't really say. But, I've thought for a while that she'd been cheating on me." Jack admitted. Rye sighed, placing a hand on Jack's shoulder.

"Hey. Even if that's true, it's completely her loss, not yours. You're an incredible, hard-working and really attractive lad Jack. She mustn't have two brain cells to think she could find someone better than you"

Jack stifled a laugh, smiling slightly and looked up at Rye. He saw the pain and heartbreak swimming in the forest green eyes and Rye hated that this girl made Jack feel like this.

"God. I'm a mess" Jack joked, wiping his eyes with the sleeve of his hoodie. RYe gave him a half-smile.

"It's ok to cry Jack. We know how much she meant to you. We all did. It's not something you're going to be able to just get over. It'll take time" Rye replied gently, rubbing his back. Jack sighed, looking back out towards the sea. At some point, the sun had set, the rest of the world fading into darkness.

"I don't want to go home. Please. Can we just drive around for a bit longer?" Jack asked gently. Rye nodded, starting the car back up.

They ended up stopping off at a drive-thru to get food and as they were driving, Rye turned the radio up and started singing at the top of his lungs to all the songs, completely out of tune but it was worth it because Jack was smiling and laughing at his idiotic friend.

By the time they got home, it was past 6 in the morning. They stumbled through the door in fits of laughter, collapsing on the sofa. Jack rolled over, putting his head in Rye's lap and closing his eyes.

"Thanks Rye. I really needed that." He mummered softly. Rye leant down and kissed the top of his head.

"Anything for you Jack."
