Rye groaned, stirring from his sleep. He still felt exhausted. Confused, he looked over at the window, noticing the sun had still not risen and it was still dark. He frowned, reaching over for his phone and checked the time. It was almost half 3 in the morning.
So, what had woken him?
Silently, he laid on his back, staring at the bottom of his bed, listening. He heard noise coming from the kitchen. Thinking someone had broken in, he grabbed the cricket bat from the corner of his room and carefully made his way downstairs.
The kitchen door was closed, but the light illuminated the otherwise dark hallway through the cracks. Rye gently pushed the door open, and his shoulders relaxing as he dropped the bat back down, leaning it against the wall. It was Brooklyn. He was sat at the breakfast bar, staring into space.
"Brook?" He questioned softly, concern lacing his voice. Brooklyn's head snapped up, as though he hadn't heard Rye enter the room.
"Rye...did I wake you up?" Brooklyn's tone was off-putting, he sounded scared and almost panicked at the thought.
"Yeah...but it's fine. Why are you awake?"
"Just couldn't sleep. S'all" this time, he was nervous. He wouldn't meet Rye's eyes and it made him unable to believe him. He grabbed a stool and sat on the opposite side to Brooklyn.
"Talk." He stated, sternly.
"I'm fine Rye. Just couldn't sleep. Go back to bed. There's no point of us both being tired"
"No there isn't," Rye agreed. "So you'd better start spilling whatever's bothering you so we can both go back to bed."
"I miss him," Brook finally admitted quietly. "Mikey, I mean. I really miss him"
Rye felt his shoulders drop, his heart breaking. He knew Brooklyn was one of the most sensitive people ever and that he'd taken Mikey's departure from the band badly. But he hadn't realised just how much.
"Oh Brook..." Rye reached out to rub his arm "I know it's weird without him here"
"It's just...we used to see him like 24 hours a day and now we're barely going to see him" Tears slipped out of Brooklyn's eyes, but he quickly wiped them away.
Rye stood up from the breakfast bar and made his way over to the sofa, beckoning Brooklyn to join him. Brooklyn sighed softly, and cuddled into Rye's chest as the brunette wrapped his arm around his shoulder.
"Was it me?" Brooklyn asked quietly. Rye frowned, squeezing his shoulders.
"Was what you?"
"The reason he left. I mean, it must have been me right? I annoyed him so much that he left. God i'm an idiot" Brooklyn started talking faster and faster and Rye could tell he was getting worked up again.
"Hey. Shut up. Shut up right now and listen to me. Yes, you are irritating beyond belief at times. But it's why we love you," Rye paused, forcing Brooklyn to look up at him. "You are not the reason Mikey left. He left because he was unhappy where he was and he missed his family. But it was nothing to do with you. Look, we'll even call him tomorrow so you can hear it from him".
Brooklyn's eyes watered and he pulled Rye into a hug, holding him tightly. When they parted Rye wiped the tears away.
"I'm sorry I woke you up" Brook mummered. Rye placed his hand on his shoulder.
"I'm glad you did. You're always worth it"
