CHAPTER 28- STANDING BRAVE!

(WHISPER'S POV)

Ocean and Floe joined me soon after Toothless had left. They had said they were gonna protect me and my babies, who they thought were adorable, but I know they were actually really scared and needed to be in a safe spot where I could protect them.

"Feeling okay Floe?" Asked Ocean. She always watched over her sister and put her feeling and needs above her own.

"A little scared. But you'll get me through it. Thank you." She replied quietly. "How are you?"

"Fine." She said the answer without really thinking or caring if it were true. She only cared about her sister.

I chuckled before saying, "Were either of you hurt while trying to get to me?"

"No, we were coming to visit the babies anyway so we were practically already here!" Replied Ocean.

"That's g-" I stopped midspeech when a lone flyer entered the cave, spear pointed.

"Get with the hatchlings!" I ordered quickly before opening my mouth to shoot.

They ran to the hatchlings and tried to lead them to the back of the den.

I blasted at the Flyer which let out a surprisingly loud scream. He wasn't too hard to get rid of and all I had to do was say, 'Boo!' and that Singe Tail immediately fled.

I was about to tell the others it was safe when a surprising dragon came rushing in. It was... Ugh, Esmeraldo.

"You okay Whisper??" He asked. "I'm here to rescue you!"

"Wow. Great job, seriously. You're a hero the way I heard you screaming and falling the whole time I fought off the Flyer..." I said painfully sarcastic.

He pretended not to hear me and continued on with, "You hide with the hatchlings near the back of the den where it's safer. I'll guard the front."

"How about you hide and I fight? I'm much better than you!" I lashed back.

His response was interrupted when about ten Flyers stormed the entrance. He and I starred on with horror. They chuckled and immediately started firing.

I tried dodging as best I could but we were restricted by the cave walls. I was hit a few times before managing to take down one Flyer. This was not gonna end in our favor... I hit another one and Esmer finally got his first. Three down, seven to go. And we were just about beat.

I looked over at Esmer to realize that he was hit up pretty bad and couldn't fight any longer. He lay on the floor with wounds from the blasting. His eyes were open and I could see he would make it, but he could no longer fight. Guess I'm alone now.

A blast and two flyers were flung off their dragons. I looked behind them and saw my sister Meelo enter the cave. We now had the last five Flyers coraled. I kept them from moving farther back in the cave and Meelo kept them from escaping.

One of the more experienced Flyers on a large Singetail swiftly flew above the rest to almost hitting the roof and used fire shooting from his stomach as a cover to get past me. He was at the back of the cave... With the babies!!

I tried to stop him before he did any harm but as I was distracted I got pinned down by another Singetail. And the other three kept Meelo too busy to help.

I roared with anger, frustration, and worry. But it was hopeless. I was stuck and so was Meelo.

The Flyer on Singetail walked closer to the babies. It opened it's mouth and looked at Lily.

"Noooo!" I wailed in a desperate attempt.

The Singetail looked down at her without mercy. He was gonna do it. She was gonna die, I will have failed as a mother.

The blast fired and... Floe was hit. She had jumped in front. Ocean wailed loudly in pain and grief.

"Ocean, I-" Floe looked weakly at her sister from across the cave before getting hit again.

"I'm sor-" Another blast yet she still didn't fall down. She kept standing.

"Sorry... I love y-" A finale blast and she slowly fell to the ground.

Ocean seemed frozen. Unable to go to her sister's side. Her eyes looked empty as if she had died as well.

I finally mustered enough anger and strength to push off the Flyer. I attacked the one who had hurt Floe. I blasted until the person was thrown off. But instead of how I usually let the dragon go, I kept attacking. I hit him in the face and he fell down. I was unsure about whether or not he was still alive but did not care. I then rushed at the others and Meelo and I finally managed to drive them all away.

"Meelo, quickly, tell Toothless. She needs help!" I roared before running to Floe.

Meelo ran out of the cave to Toothless and I checked Floe. She was gone... And there was nothing I could do to help her.

".....I'm sorry. She stood bravely. Didn't fall until I could help." I looked down.

"No. No, she shouldn't have died! I was supposed to protect her! She died protecting your children. She shouldn't have. You weren't even strong enough to help... Go away!" She screamed without moving or even looking at her sister.

I sighed.

"Ocean-"

"Take your kids and go away!" She growled again. "You horrible dragon!"

She just needs time. I thought.

I then let out a small trill and the three horrified Night Furies came running. But when I turned around to leave I realized that we had forgotten all about Esmeraldo. And he wasn't even here anymore.

Did he just wake up and... leave? Something seems wrong. But I wouldn't worry about that now. I had to get the kids somewhere safe.

Toothless then came rushing in.

"Oh thank god you're okay Whisper! And the kids, I was so worried." Said toothless.

"No! It should have been you! Or her!" Ocean screamed at Lily.

Toothless was shocked by Ocean's behavior and then looked behind me and saw the scene. His face was twisted with pity and grief. Floe was collapsed and smoke radiated off her, Flyers were laying face down on the ground, and a single Singetail was fallen and barely breathing.

"Toothless, help me get the kids to a new nest please..."

"I-" He seemed choked up. "Yeah, yeah, of course." He finally managed to answer.

I picked up Lily and Meelo, Toothless picked up Ela. We flew them to a nest only a few caves away.

Toothless filled me in on what the leaders said about Hiccup and leaving. In return, I told him what happened in the cave. Yet Midnight had come in just before I could finish the story.

"Whisper, Toothless, I'm here to watch your children while you two talk to the alphas. They have summoned you to their den."

"Midnight, I can't leave them after what just happened..." I said.

"They seem to be asleep at the moment and you know me, I can take care of them. And always will if things don't go your way during the talk." She replied.

I knew what she was talking about. 'If me and Toothless were banned from the Moon Mountains...'

I nodded and we both flew towards the leader's den...

Done with another! Things don't seem to be looking quite right at the moment, do they? Esmer's disappearance can't be good, Floe is..., Ocean is..., Toothless will either have to leave Hiccup or leave Whisper and the children, and Whisper and Toothless might get kicked out and never allowed to see their children again...

Oof...
