Katniss's POV

My eyelids feel heavy, as I begin to wake up. The blinding sunlight reflecting off the snow through the kitchen curtains, which caused me to groan. Once my eyes had adjusted I glanced over and saw a figure slumped in a kitchen chair with distraught dirty blonde hair, holding my hand for dear life.  I carefully remove my hand from Peeta's as I sit up on the kitchen table. Prim walked into the kitchen probably to check on me. She smiled softly "Oh, you're awake, that's great."

"How long was I asleep for?" I asked as it felt like only a few hours.

"Just a day," Prim said "He's been there all night."

I smiled at Peeta's slumped body, poor thing must be exhausted and full of worry. I notice the wraps were off my arms, Prim had placed this gooey, clear yet yellow tinted substance on my arms, to prevent it from infection she had told me, before wrapping them again. After she had wrapped them with clean wraps and gauze to soak up any blood if it were to leak, I gently swept some of Peeta's blonde locks of hair away from his face. He looks so peaceful, and innocent as if he couldn't hurt a fly. I smile before gently placing a kiss on his forehead.

"Am I okay to walk around  Prim?" I questioned

"Yeah just be careful." She replied as she began to boil water, probably for some herbal tea.

I slip on a winter coat, and my boots before heading outside, making sure to close the door quietly, not to wake Peeta up. I walk through the Victor's Village before Haymitch's front door lies in front of me. His house exudes an air of neglect and abandonment. I knocked once, there was no answer so I just decided to walk right in. My nose immediately wrinkles at the foul smell of the house. The odors of liquor, vomit, boiled cabbage, burnt meat, unwashed clothes and mice feces have mixed into a stench that brings tears to my eyes. He sits at the kitchen table, knocked out over his arms which are sprawled across the wood. His face in a puddle of liquor, I sigh at the sight, how does a victor live like this  I pondered. I walked over to him and nudge his shoulder, nothing. "Get up Haymitch!" I shouted and still nothing. I took the empty mug that sat next to his sleeping body and poured icy cold  water into the mug. Once it was full I walked over and dumped it onto Haymitch. He awoken like someone was about to mug him, he drew a knife from god knows where, and began spewing curses under his breath before his eyes met mine.

"What are you doing here?" He growled

"I am here to check on you but clearly there is much need for improvement still," I said as I went to open a nearby window.

"what happened yesterday Katniss?" He asked

"Gale and I went to go hunt for some game, and I got attacked by a wild dog, but Gale shot the dog so it's dead now and as for the pack , they sprinted away," I recalled the treacherous events that happened yesterday.

With that being said I decided to leave Haymitch alone in his house, Peeta will take care of him. I shut the door behind me as the cool winter air smacked me in the face, I head towards the mines to find Gale. I have to tell him something, and it's urgent.
