Tris's POVA blaring sound of a high-pitched whistle could be heard in the distance, which meant one thing, train. I glance back to watch the train approach us and listen to the rhythmic bump of the car over the ties, the whisper of metal against metal. As the first car whirls past me, I break into a sprint ignoring the burning sensation in my legs. Caleb jumps into the middle cart, with little to no struggle. I take a short breath and throw myself to the right, slamming into the floor of the cart, my legs dangling over the edge. Caleb grabs my arm and helps me the rest of the way. Tobias uses the handle and swings himself in after me with ease, I mean he has done this numerous times he makes it look effortless.
We hear the floor of the train cart creak as these dark looking figures begin to walk toward us. I quickly draw my gun from my waistband, so does Tobias and we aim at the figures but don't fire. The once dark figures are now in the light, and I recognize their faces, it's the loyal Dauntless. Tobias and I draw our guns back as I am pulled into an embrace by Christina and Marlene joined our hug. Uriah and Zeke both looked at Four and gave a small smile before embracing him into a side hug. Shauna glances from Caleb to myself and smiles softly, as for Lynn, she just snorts as if annoyed. My eyes notice a familiar face in the background, blonde hair like my own, dressed in blue. Then it clicks, Cara, former Erudite as well as Will's older sister. Once we all pull away from our embraces there is an eerie vibe that we are not the only ones who occupy the train. I notice eyes that glitter in the darkness, as well as dark shadows sitting in the car, in various numbers more than us.
The factionless.
Everyone was silent, not a peep or sound can be heard except the wind whistling through the cart. A factionless man with an eye patch has his gun pointed at Tobias, I wonder what had happened to his eye. The man with the gun spoke "They aren't Amity, they are Dauntless." Then it clicks, Edward a former initiate who left Dauntless after Peter attacked him with a butter knife, which explains the eye patch. Finally Caleb speaks up, " We are running from the Erudite and Dauntless traitors, if we were to get off they would find us immediately, we'd appreciate it if you allowed us to stay until we reached the wall or at least the end of the forest.
"Yeah? Well what have you done for us?" Edward stated with a sourness in his tone.
"I helped you, I was a former Abnegation," Caleb said.
"You did, but the others?" He replied.
"I don't think you would wanna push me off this train" Tobias said as he stepped forward the barrel of Edward's gun now resting on his Adam's apple.
"And why so?" Edward said in a satire tone.
"Tobias Eaton." Tobias said as the others looked shocked excluding Caleb and myself.
"What, you know him?" He replied
"I am him. So I would appreciate it if we were allowed to stay until we reached the end of the woods." Tobias said.
Edward nodded before he and the rest of the factionless went back to where they were hiding. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in, I felt a strong arm wrap around my waist, which made me feel secure. Lynn speaks up breaking the silence, " So there was an attack on Candor, from the Erudite/Dauntless."
I look at Uriah and he nods before speaking up, " We went to the Hancock building to spy on the Erudite, then all of the sudden we heard the glass doors had shattered into fragments. The Dauntless shoulders had blue armbands, they stood there carrying guns as they walked down the sidewalk. Guns none of us have even seen, narrow, blue beams of light which streamed from the barrels. That's when we all took a run for it."
"Then they began firing at the fellow faction members, they dropped like flies. We took a chance and decided to run but one by one we all fell." Marlene added.
"But I had woken up, the pain from whatever they had shot us with had dulled away. Then Bob found me and other divergents. He had us brought out from the elevator banks, forcing us on our knees. One of the Dauntless traitors said his plan was to take one or two of us back to Erudite for testing, unfortunately the rest of us would be executed."
"And that's when I came in," Zeke said heroic like, "but I wasn't alone I brought my little rats with me." He chuckled.
"I wasn't a traitor like everyone says and nor was Tori or Shauna."
I cleared my throat taking in all the information before mentioning the earlier events that happened in Amity, and how Peter Hayes is a traitor.
