Katniss's POV

I found Gale just as he was exiting the mines, covered in coal dust. I gravitated towards him, as soon as I reach him I grip his arm and drag him with me. I walk at a fast pace, tugging Gale behind me as he stumbles over his own feet, trying to keep up with me. Once we reached a secluded area which I am sure isn't bugged with The Capitol's cameras, I lean up against a tree to allow Gale to catch his breath.

I soon begin to explain the situation, "President Snow threatened to personally have you killed," I say.

Gale raised his eyebrows slightly not showing any fear or even astonishment, "Anyone else?"

"Well he did not exactly give me a list of who but I know both of our families are in danger." I mumbled in a quiet tone.

"Unless what?" He said as if President Snow wanted something in return .

"Unless nothing as of now" I say, this conversation needs a more secure area and definitely a lot more explaining to do, the problem is I have no idea where to start.

After a few seconds of silence Gale speaks up, "Well thanks
for the heads up Catnip."

I turn to him, reading to snap at him, before catching the glint in his eyes, that makes me smile. I hate myself for smiling. This is a serious matter, no need for joking. "I have a plan, you know."

"Must be a stunner," He mumbled before tossing me a pair of gloves, "I don't want your fiancé's old gloves." He spat the words out like venom.

"He isn't my fiancé, it's part of the act you know that. As for the gloves, they were actually Cinna's," I say bitterly. I have no idea why Gale wont believe me when I say it's an act.

Before he can even speak I continue taking a deep breathe before speaking, "The plan is that we run away."

He wore a look that he was surprised those words left my mouth, the last time we had a conversation like this I snapped at him.

"We take the woods and make a run for it, to the wall." I say. His face shows a mix of emotions that I cant quite put my finger on.

I continue before he could make a mockery of me, "You said we could do it! The morning of the reaping! You said-"

He cut me off, taking a few steps toward me before embracing me, "Alright we can run away." He said

" We can do it, and never look back. Me and you, you know." He says into my hair, before resting his chin on top of my head.

"It'll be hard with all the kids, I don't wanna get five miles into the woods, and have you-" I spoke.

"I am sure, I am a hundred percent positive Catnip." He said before he rested his forehead against mine, our stone grey eyes meeting each others. He pulls me closer, as his heat radiates to my body, making me warm. I don't try and move away as I breathe in the scent; reminding me of the times we shared before the first games.

"I love you Catnip" He said just above a whisper.

I feel terrible, a lump in my throat that won't go away. "Gale, you know I can't do that, not after Prim's name was drawn at the Reaping. I can't think of anyone that way anymore." I said softly, knowing it would hurt him.

I see the hurt in his eyes as he swallows his disappointment, "So, we will go. We'll find out, you know my mother will take some convincing."

"Mine will too, I have to get her to see a good reason on why." I said before pulling away from Gale, and turning on my heels. "We can talk more about this later." I said as I start the trek back to my old house to retrieve a few items.
