Hybrids and Humans: A BTS Story (AU)

Part 4

"Okay...but when I say this is a long story, I'm not kidding", Mina started. "You have to keep in mind that there are more anti-hybrid people in the world than you think, even with the current protection laws".

"I will", I replied.

Jihyo continued from there. "Our cousins moved in with us a few years ago after their parents died in a car accident. Understandably, it took them some time to adjust to living with us, some longer then others, but eventually we were all able to find closure after the accident. Once we did, even though our household was packed, there never was a boring moment with all fourteen of us."

"So what happened?", I asked.

"Some months ago...I think seven months back, we decided to go out to celebrate something...I think it was Nayeon's birthday, but I'm not entirely sure", Sana chimed in.

"I think this was back in September, so yes, you're right Sana", Mina responded.

"Alright, but that's besides the point", Sana continued. "Anyways, as the fourteen of us were walking out of the restaurant, some middle-aged lady came to us demanding for money. Something about her seemed off to us already, but our cousins seemed to know exactly who it was. Turns out, the lady was the one that caused the crash that killed their parents.

"Oh damn...", I said in reply. "What did you tell her?"

"At first, we politely declined, but she just kept asking over and over again", Momo replied. "It was only after she had asked us about three times that we realized who she was, and we told her to go away. She turned to go, but then turned around and tried to take Yeji and Lia from us."

"Yeji and Lia?"

"Our cousins", Jeongyeon quietly responded. "The others are Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna."

"I see. Sorry, continue"

"Obviously, we weren't going to let her take them, because God knows what she would've done with them", Nayeon stated. "But by this point, the rest of our cousins were getting nervous, and I could tell she was getting more and more impatient. We managed to pull both of them out of her grasp...however none of us knew that she had a gun..."

"Oh no...", I said. "I can already tell this won't end well".

"It doesn't", Jeongyeon replied. "She pulled it out and we think she was planning to use it on one of us. However, Sana figured out pretty quickly what she was about to do, so she went into animal form and scratched her up."

"It didn't do much to her physically, but it caused enough of a ruckus for the police to get involved and arrest her. Unfortunately, she managed to get one shot in before the police arrived", Sana pointed out, a sad tone in her words.  

I winced in pain, pretty sure of what had happened next...

"We were all scared when we heard the shot and looked around, praying that nobody had gotten hurt...but alas, when we turned to look at Chaeryeong, she had a hole in her neck no bigger than a nail..." I could hear Jihyo's voice breaking as she trailed off from continuing the story, her eyes tearing up. I looked over at each of them and could also see some tears starting to form in their eyes as well. 

"If you guys need a few minutes, go ahead", I said.

They all nodded, some of them breaking down, others letting their tears fall silently.

"What's wrong?", a small voice asked from the door way.

Our heads turned to see Tzuyu standing there with a stuffed arctic wolf toy.
