me: ok so it looks like maybe i'll update this story in the fall when i have time

this story: hits 5k

me: ok looks like i'm updating now

anyways, thanks for 5k! (or i guess 5.3k as I write this hahaha) here's an update as a present!

The journey back home was rather silent compared to when we had left. I was still angry about Sonya, upset that Baekhyun won't believe me, and a messy shirt stained with my old drink wasn't helping my downcast mood.

It wasn't until we were almost home did the silence finally break.

"Melody..."

"Hmm?" I snapped out of my thoughts and turned to face Yuta.

"I'm sorry."

I looked at him oddly. "What for? You did nothing wrong."

"It's just...none of this would've happened if I hadn't taken you out this afternoon, then you wouldn't be mad and your friend wouldn't be upset with you, or- "

I interrupted him. "It's not your fault, Yuta. It's not anyone's fault, really. Like you said, Sonya's just a bitch that needs to be put in her place."

He nodded. "You're right, she needs to be stopped."

Hobi chimed in. "Yeah! That girl's a mean bit- "

I looked at him, cutting him off. "Don't finish that sentence", I told him, half-warningly, half-lighthearted.

"What is a bitch, anyway?"

With a "how-do-I-explain-this-to-him" kind of look, I tell him, "It's a way to describe a rude person, but don't go around saying that to your brothers."

"Okay!"

With that, we finally made it home. "Thanks for taking me out today", I say as the three of us were at the doorstep.

"No problem, I just thought you'd want to, after everything that's happened. And yet, I still feel bad about the Sonya incident."

"It's fine. Besides, it's not your fault I'm covered in coffee and I lost a friend". I paused, then asked, "Does it seem like every time we're together, something bad happened, or is about to happen?"

Yuta just shook his head. "I never really saw it like that. Why?"

"Well, for starters, when we first met, it was because I was crying thanks to Sonya being mean, and I ran into you at the arcade. Then our paths crossed at that one café, right after I got kicked out of my home. And then this. It's probably all just some big coincidence, but sometimes I just feel like it isn't. Does that make any sense at all?"

"I think it makes sense if you put it that way", he replied. "Well, even if it isn't some big coincidence, at least you know that I'll have your back through it all!"

The way he said that last part was with such cheerfulness that I couldn't help but smile. "You're right."

"And hey", he added. "I guess I have Sonya to thank for one thing."

"That is?"

"If it weren't for her, I wouldn't have met you."

I shook my head, smiling. "That's true too."

Yuta seemed as if he were about to say something else, but by this point Hobi was becoming impatient to get inside, so the two of us parted ways as I let Hobi inside the house, me following him shortly.

"So...how'd it go?", Mina asked once I entered the house. We sat down at the kitchen table, which was empty except for Jihyo drinking a cup of hot chocolate while eating her croissant.
