Jay’s POV

I walked into John’s house only to be greeted with a slap across my face. My head jerked to the right from the impact of the slap. I scowl and turn my head to meet a pi$$ed looking John.

“Jason, what the hell do you think you’re doing?” He screamed at me. I glare back at him and fold my arms across my chest. How dare he slap me! He has no right!

“Excuse me?” I question him still slightly in shock from being slapped. John sighs angrily while he starts to pace in front of me.

“Why on earth would you challenge Luke like that? He’s an Alpha you idiot! He could kill you!” John starts his rant off. “Not to mention how Luna will take all of this! My god that poor girl, I know what it’s like to lose a mate! She’ll never realize how much you mean to her till your six feet under-“ I cut him off abruptly.

“Why would I be six feet under? Luke wouldn’t kill me… Would he?” I ask John uncertainly. He sighs and gestures for me to follow him into the living room. The plain white walls make the black furniture look sleek, which it isn’t.

“Jason, you need to understand,” Luke begins, sitting down on one love seat as I sit in the one across from him. “Luke, well, he’s never really, how do I say it?” John trails off. “Luke has always been one for holding grudges, no one knows why really. I doubt even Casey knows, but regardless Luke doesn’t let things go very easily. Luke already dislikes you, now that you’ve made it clear that you want something of his, he’ll never be able to surrender. To him, this is a battle to the death, whether you’re prepared or not.” He explains. He runs his hands through his thinning hair and roughly gets up. He walks over to a bookcase by the TV and grabs an album.

“I don’t understand.” I state raising an eyebrow at his strange behavior. He flips through the pages till he lands on one in particular. He walks over to me and plops the book down on my lap.

“Here, look at this.”  I look down to see a man, about forty or so, with his arms wrapped around two boys. One looks like me when I was younger, the other looks unfamiliar. The photo’s black and white but it’s still easy to pick out the details.

“Who are they?”  I ask John. He walks back over to his chair as I continue to study the photo. There’s something about the man that looks so… familiar? Then it hits me.

“That’s my father, that’s Luke and I when we were kids.” John explains. But that doesn’t explain what this photo has to do with me, does it? “Did anyone ever tell you how Luke got into power?” He asks me as I shake my head.

“All that has happened to me since I’ve met you guys is I’ve been yelled at multiple times. No one’s told me anything really.” I tell him lowering my head. It feels, well, weird to be admitting this. I mean sure, it’s the truth, but I hate being pitied, it makes me feel weak.
