Chapter 3: Time (時間)

Back at the house, sakonji makes a hot pot fit for a whole family. Tanjiro was in awe, and so were you surprisingly.

You've never seen him make so much.
"What's the occasion? There's so much" tanjiro said.
"You've completed all your training, so we're celebrating. Don't be shy. Eat up"

Sakonji hands you and tanjiro a bowl.
"Thank you very much!"
"Sakonji...this doesn't seem like you, if I may be honest" you said.

Sakonji just points at your bowl signaling to just eat. You did as told, and ate a small portion.

"(Y/n), if it's too much to ask. Can you cut my hair please?" Tanjiro asks.
"Your hair? Oh, well okay. Shame though, I really like how it turned out"
Tanjiro got flustered now.
"R-really? Then I guess I don't have to—"

You chuckle.
"No, no, I'll cut it"

You were cutting tanjiro's hair, while sakonji was putting everything away.
"Hey, tanjiro, (y/n)..."
Tanjiro turns to sakonji, while you were still focusing on cutting his hair, but you gave sakonji your ears.

"Yes"
"Did you two enjoy that hot pot?"
You nod.
"Yes! I haven't had such a feast in so long!"

"A growing boy like you tanjiro, with a hearty appetite should get stronger the more he eats, as well as grow bigger in size" he says.

"But that goes for demons, too" you said.
"That's right. So remember this tanjiro, a demon as strong as the number of humans he's devoured"

"So, the more they eat, the stronger they get?"
"That's right" sakonji gets up.
"There are demons who gain power, become able to transform their bodies, and even use strange spells"

Sakonji opens up a cabinet and pulls out a face mask.
"When your sense of smell becomes keener, you'll be able to tell how many humans a demon's consumed"

Sakonji gives the mask to tanjiro.
"What's this?"
"It's called a "warding mask." I've charged it with a spell to protect you from harm" he says.

"Warding mask..."
You couldn't help but clutch tanjiro's hair tight.
"Ow, (y-y/n)!"
You noticed.
"S-Sorry..." you let go and gently continued to cutting his hair.

Sakonji saw your distress but didn't pay no mind to say anything to you at the moment.

"Get some rest for tomorrow as you take off" sakonji says, then leaves just you and tanjiro alone.
"There, all done" you said.

Tanjiro observes his hair.
"Wow thanks (y/n), you did really good!"
"I sometimes help my brother cut his hair to a certain length sometimes so this is nothing new" you said.

You get up and walk towards the door to go to bed. You stopped for a moment to think.

"Tanjiro...come back alive okay. I believe in you" you said, then you turned around and gently hugged him.

Tanjiro didn't know what was going on but he was flustered, and his heart couldn't stop beating.

Your touch was warm and you smelled like floral cherry blossoms. He hugs back consuming this moment.

For some reason ever since you helped him with everything along with sakonji, he couldn't get you off his mind. Other than nezuko, he was starting to think about you a lot.

As you were about to go to bed tanjiro said something to you.

"Sabito...he told me that he misses you. And that you need to move on and don't shut yourself out from everyone anymore. He also says that he wanted me to be sure that I can take care of you. Though uhm, it seems you don't look like the type to be a damsel in distress, but no matter what I'll protect you along with my sister!" Tanjiro said with determines eyes.
