Chapter 8: Anger (いかり)

"Our big brother got taken away. When we were walking down the road at night, this monster we'd never seen before showed up. It didn't give us a glance. Just our brother" the boy said.

"And they went inside that house, right?" Tanjiro asked.
"Yeah. Yeah"
"Did you two follow them here? You did good! Great job!" Tanjiro smiles at the children, while they were crying.

"We followed the traces of his blood. Because he got hurt!" The boy said.
"Don't worry! We're going to defeat the bad guy and rescue your brother!" Tanjiro said with a positive vibe to make them feel better.

You were a bit surprised on how he was handling the children.
"Really? You really will?" The little girl asked.
"Yeah. For sure!"

"Tanjiro, (y/n)...hey, what is this sound? This creepy sound never stops. Is it a tsuzumi?" Zenistu said.
"A tsuzumi?"
"Sound? I don't hear any"

Soon the sound of a tsuzumi was heard from the house. Each sound it made kept getting faster, until a human came flying out of the story house covered in blood.

Quick with speed you catch the man from making a big fall.
The little girl screams.
"Don't look!" Tanjiro says.

Zenistu was shivering in fear, while Tanjiro ran up to see the man.
"Are you all right?"
"Tanjiro, his breathing, his breathing is slowing down" you said.

You and Tanjiro then see the man struggle with his words.
"Even though...I got out...even though I made it out...made it outside. Still...am I gonna die? Am I still gonna die?" You suddenly didn't feel a pulse anymore. He was gone.

You gently set him down on the floor.
"Tanjiro, (y/n). By any chance, is that guy these kids'..."

Grumbling noises were heard as it was shaking the environment. The kids were shaking in fear along with Zenistu.

"We couldn't save him...if only we'd gotten here a little sooner, we might've managed to save him. Hey, is this man your brother?" Tanjiro said.

"I-it's not brother. Brother's wearing a persimmon-colored kimono"
"So there were more people captured in the house than one. Tanjiro" you said.
"Yeah...we'll bury him when I return" Tanjiro puts his hand in prayer.

"You're going by yourself?" You ask.
"Not just me. Zenistu, come on!"
Zenitsu looked at Tanjiro in fear and shaked his head no real fast.

"How about I go with you and Zenistu can stay and guard the children" you say.
"I think you should look out for these kids. Don't worry me and Zenistu will take care of this demon" Tanjiro said.

You choose me to stay, over someone who wants to stay?

You started to get a little irritated.
"But—"
"Zenistu, let's go!"
You sigh heavily and sit down next to the children, crossed legs and arms crossed. You look at Zenistu and he was still terrified.

"All right, then"
Tanjiro walked away from him, as he was about to proceed to the house. Zenistu jolted.
"Hey, come on! Why are you making that ogre face at me? Okay, I'll go!"

"I have no intention of forcing you to"
"I said I'll go!
Before Tanjiro was about to go in, he remembers something and comes back to you.

He places the wooden box that had Nezuko in it next to you and the kids.
"I'm leaving this box behind, if you need any help (y/n), in case of an emergency. I just know you two will protect these kids" Tanjiro says.

"Just go..." you said.
You didn't make any eye contact with him. Tanjiro looks at you with worried eyes, thinking if he did something wrong.
