Paralyzed

"So y/n this is your first radio interview since you made major headlines five months ago. This is your first public outing." I nod behind the microphone
"Your boyfriend Michael is sitting beside you for support and we're finally gonna hear what happened. We're finally gonna hear about why you're sitting in a wheelchair behind this desk" he says.
"Yes, yea well it's definitely a story. The pictures of the car accident I was in are definitely what happened. I was in a very bad accident. A drunk driver ran a red light and t-boned me. I was wearing my seat belt, I wasn't on my phone, I saw the car coming but it was too late to swerve. I did everything that's supposed to help you in that situation and I still came out in a wheelchair. I'm paralyzed from the waist down" I say.
"Wow, So when it happened Michael wasn't in the car"
"No he wasn't even in the country he was in..." I try to remember, I look over at him.
"Manila. I was in Manila for promo" he adds.
"Michael tell us your side of it"
"Well I was in a hotel with the band and we were sitting with Dusty Kessler and Andrew watt. And my phone rang. And I looked to see y/n's name so I answer it. And she goes. "Baby" and my heart started racing she sounded so worried and relieved at the same time. I say what's up and she says. "I want you to know I'm okay" and I got a little less tense until she said "but" and I started to panic a little. She said "I was in a car accident" I kinda freaked out a little and I stood up and kept saying are you okay and I'm coming home and she said very calmly "sit down." And I felt so heavy in that moment I didn't know what to expect. I mean what's worse then being in a car accident. She asks who I'm with and then tells me there's more. She says "I don't want you to have to repeat this so put me on speaker so everyone can hear" and at this point everyone is kinda looking at me confused cuz they don't know. So I slowly put my phone down on the hotel bed and everyone says hi and then she says. "I was in a car accident" and Calum goes "are you okay?" And she just says. "I'm paralyzed" and my world collapsed. There's that weight of the world saying and I literally felt so heavy in that moment. Everyone was quiet and I fell to the ground and started crying. I could hear her sobs in the phone and I never wanted to hug her more. She said she had to go and I told her I'll see her soon. I was still on the floor. Luke hung up the call and all three of them got on the floor with me." He finished up.
"That's an incredible story. Y/n what has this experience done to your mental well being?"
"It's very difficult you don't wake up from a horrible accident paralyzed and just move on. It's impossible. I do weekly therapy, it took me almost a month to say I'm paralyzed without crying. You really have to adapt to a new life and figure things out again. It does make you really appreciate the little things. I took so many things for granted like little things such as picking up something I dropped. Everything is so much more of a challenge."
"What about physical health?"
"Well I have a huge scar down my back. But all in all my health is pretty stable. I'll always have to keep an eye on things but so far so far good"
"Michael what has this experience taught you?"
"Never ever ever take things for granted. I left for Manila and kissed my girlfriend goodbye at the airport and got onto a plane. I came back three days later and didn't even go home. I went and slept in a hospital for four weeks. I will never take the little things for granted anymore because you don't know when they'll be gone." He says. I grab his hand.
"Is there a message you want to give your fans y/n?"
"I will be releasing music very soon. It's gonna be different as my life has changed drastically but also. Whoever you are. Whatever you're going through always try to turn it positive. I'm gonna be using my platform to raise awareness. I'm not gonna let this stop me. I'm gonna let it change me but not in a bad way" I say.
