A Kiss of Goodbye

39: 25th

"Happy Birthday honey!" My mom greeted me from the other line. "Happy 25th Birthday Aevey!" My dad added in. It's 6:00 AM in the morning and my parents couldn't wait any longer and woke me up from constant ringing of my phone. For a moment I thought it's from him. I can't be sad today, it's my friggin' birthday! -"Thanks mom, dad! Don't forget about tonight, Ok?" I replied still sounding sleepy. "Ok honey, go back to sleep now! We love you!!!" And they bid me goodbye.

It's Thursday today, I have to hustle and bustle to finally wipe everything clean for my birthday celebration and still go to work. My small party will happen at the roof deck of our apartment. Hal helped me set it up, asked for the management's permission and she will cater the food services.

I got out of bed stood up quickly suddenly feeling nauseous. I sat back on the bed for support as I feel the need to vomit. I relaxed myself, performed deep breathing in hopes to alleviate the discomfort. I'm used to this orthostatic hypotension. It's when your body is unable to adjust with the sudden change of altitude causing light headedness and nausea as a result of the sudden drop of blood pressure.

I opened my eyes and the world around me is swirling, my head starts to throb in pain. I am salivating profusely and the acid from my stomach is threatening to escape to my throat from the sphincter. I stood up and hurried to the bath room. I am vomiting pure saliva and followed by few food churned from last night. I felt weak and unable to move. I stayed there for a while observing and decided to take warm shower.

I have managed to get myself to work. I took acetaminophen and meclizine for temporary relief and hopefully make it through the day. It must be from the food last night. I must've taken too much fatty acids or maybe it's because of slow digestion. I am thinking about logical reasons why this happened to me. I took a cab to work today, although the dizziness is gone but my body has not gained back the energy. Oh! I can't be sick on my birthday.

It's going to be a busy day since there are plenty of prescriptions piling up that needs to be reviewed, assessed and dispensed. I'm on my 6th prescription, it is still 2 hours from when I took the medicines but the symptoms are back. I tried to set it aside and made it through my next prescription when it has become more unbearable this time. I looked at my workmate who's been also looking at me. She asked me what's going on as I looked a little pale even with a light make up on and sweating. I immediately called our manager to excuse myself; good thing she covered for me.

I went straight to the comfort room and vomit. My knees are getting weak and my palms are getting numb. I am now making incoherent actions as the dizziness becomes more evident. I called for help but unable to make it audible. -"Help, somebody help!" I said with all my might with all the strength I have left.

My manager called someone from the emergency department as they can't personally assist me with all the work piling up. I am brought to the E.R. but I must've passed out because I couldn't remember anything beyond vomiting.

I have woken up in the hospital bed and an I.V line is attached to my arm. Still feeling light headed but not as bad as it was earlier. It took a while before the doctor came to me. She smiled as she approached me. "How are you feeling now Aevey?" She asked when she's at my bedside. I nod and smiled back. -"A little better I guess." "Well you should. You better take care of yourself more now that you are pregnant." She said while touching my arm lightly.
