Colby's P.O.V
I slowly walked in the house with a giggling Brie behind me. She had been non-stop laughing since I had asked her out. I couldn’t help but smile at her and the cute sound that escaped her lips.
When we walked in the living room I saw Brie's parents looking at each other with serious faces. Tension was clearly present in the room.I started to wonder what was wrong for both of her parents looked as if they were about to cry. Admittedly Brie’s mom looked more upset then her dad.
Brie stopped laughing and looked at them.
"What's going on?" Brie asked as she gazed at them with worry.
I started to figure that she could also feel the anxiety that was heavy over the room.
Both of her parents looked at us, their faces were now composed with smiles that didn't reach their eyes.
"We got a call," Brie's dad spoke first. Sadness was laced in his voice.
"From who?" I inquired and then walked father into the living room.
"Child services, they said that even though Colby's dad left us custody of Penny, Chase and Colby, they want to make sure that we are fit to be their guardians," Brie's father stated.
Suddenly, Brie's mom stood up, "They are completely crazy! To come and check up on us as if we can't take care of them!"
My face fell as I realized how much trouble my father's death was impacting their family.
"Calm down, honey, you and I both know we are good parents. Child services said it’s nothing personal, it's normal for them to do this," Brie's dad said as he stood up and comforted his wife.
I felt a warm sensation on my forearm. Looking down I saw that Brie was holding my arm. Her eyes were, however, focused on her parents before her. Yet, I knew her gesture was meant to ease the painful thoughts of my father’s death that now flooded my mind.
"Mom, chill, when child services come here and inspect the house and evaluate our family, I am sure they will find that you two are more than qualified to be the guardians of Chase, Penny and even Colby." Brie spoke with a light smile.
Her mom's expression turned slightly happier. "Oh, my wise child, you're right. We have nothing to worry about," Brie's mother looked at her husband for confirmation.
"Nothing to worry about at all," her husband kissed the top of her head.
"Brie!" Penny shouted as she came running in the room. Her arms were spread open as she sprinted over to Brie.
Brie picked up Penny once she reached her. As Penny was settled on Brie's hip, she started to mess with Brie's blond hair while trying to convince Brie to come watch Yo Gabba Gabba with her and Chase.
In a cry for help Brie looked at me. But, from Brie's side Penny stuck her head out and gave me a puppy dog face that always gets me.
“Will it help if I watch it with you?” I whispered to Brie.
Her green eyes softened before nodding.<><><><><><><><><><><>
