You wake up to Chihiro nudging you awake a few moments later.

"Arinaga. Arinaga. You have sustained head trauma, please awaken."

You blink your eyes open. You think they're off-sync - it feels like your left eye was a little delayed.

"Chi...hiro?" Her small form hovers over you worriedly. "What're you doing here?"

"You and Koga were taking too long to return. I became worried and came to check on you. For good reason, it seems."

You laugh before cringing at your headache. You reach up to hold it in your hands but stop when Chihiro smacks them away.
"You're bleeding. I need to get you back to camp."

You swear that there's a Ditto sitting in the corner of your vision but when you look, it's not there.

Probably... because Pokémon don't exist. But. You never know. Why. Are my thoughts so fucking short?

You can't form a solid sentence in your head, much less out loud.

"I want... to go to sleep. Let sleep happen."

Chihiro shakes her head but you close your eyes regardless, just to show her that you do whatever the fuck you want.

"Arinaga, no-!"

The next time you wake up, you're laying in the cave that Koga has designated for you on the mountain. And speaking of Koga...

"Arinaga?"

...He sits cross-legged at your side, holding a skin full of water and looking at you worriedly.

"You're awake," he says, and you can't help but notice that his voice is very small.

You smile. "So it seems."

He holds out the skin, awkward. "You need to drink."

You don't think you're thirsty, but the moment he hands over the canteen you can tell you're going to need another one.

And you do; the thing gets drained in one go, and you laugh at Koga's stunned face when you hand the empty skin back to him.

"What the-?"

"I'm alright now, thank you," you tell him, and he takes the skin back without a word. What's wrong with him?

You ask, "Are you okay?"

He doesn't answer for several long moments. When he finally answers, he says, "...I failed you. I was off by myself thinkin' about how dumb I was for walkin' in half-naked while you were bein' attacked."

You say, "Oh, Kog-"

"I'm sorry, Arinaga. For failin' you. And I... I'd understand if you don't feel safe on the mountain anymore."

"Koga, n-"

"That's twice now that I couldn't protect you, and if you wanna-"

"Can you shut the fuck up for a second?"

He falls silent.
You snap, "Did you ever stop to think about how I feel about that? Everything in this world comes with risks. I'm no safer out there than I am here on the mountain, and I've enjoyed my time here with you. So no, I'm not leaving, and that's the end of that."

He looks shocked, but grins all the same. "You're a stubborn one, I'll give you that."

You smile warmly. "I hope you like it, since you're stuck with me."

Koga opens his mouth to say something else, but Kimiko comes barreling through the entrance and throws her cute self at you at Mach four before Koga catches her by the waist.
