Madeline had sent Elijah out on baby monitor errands as soon as he had returned to the compound. The brunette wanted to set up the devices in every room of the house, so that she could hear Henry in whichever room he was in. She carried the receiver on her belt at all times.
As Klaus, Rebekah, Elijah, Marcel and Davina met with Freya in the courtyard, Madeline stayed inside, and kept peering through the window where she could overlook the group. Henry was in her arms the entire time, just in case.
She watched as Klaus glanced up her way, before turning to grab the baby monitor and bring it to his mouth.
"Why don't you come down, my love?"
His voice crackled through the receiver on her belt, and Madeline couldn't help but scoff.
"Oh? So now that I know what's going on, I'm invited to your little meetings?" She spoke as if he were standing beside her in the room.
"You're coming down then?"
"No."
She could picture him rolling his eyes at her, and she prided herself whenever she felt that she had succeeded in irritating him.
"Freya would like to meet her nephew."
"No."
"Madeline, if you don't come down, I will come up."
"She's going to put a spell on him!" She couldn't keep her tears out of her voice.
"Freya means no harm." Madeline looked up to see Elijah standing in the doorway. "I give you my word that she will not perform any magic on Henry, I will kill her myself if I hear her even begin to utter a single spell."
"Is she really your sister?" Madeline asked, cradling Henry's sleeping head against her collarbone.
"She is."
Putting her trust in the honourable Original, Madeline descended the staircase into the back area of the compound. Hopefully, Freya would get tired of waiting and just leave.
"Ah, there she is, finally. Trying to delay the meeting by taking the long route, sweetheart?" Klaus smirked, calling her out on her childish trick. "Madeline this is our sister, Freya. Freya, this is Madeline and Henry."
Freya offered the brunette a small smile, and although she didn't want to, Madeline felt as if she could trust the ash blonde immediately. She didn't know what came over her, but she felt shameful tears forming in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, for being rude."
"It's alright." Freya replied, her voice as smooth as melted butter. "I'm sorry for making you worried, and afraid. I mean neither you, nor Henry, any harm."
Madeline returned the witch's small smile, and looked up at Klaus for reassurance before she shifted the baby in her arms as she addressed Freya. "Would you like to hold him?" She whispered the question, so quietly, that Freya didn't hear her. But when Madeline held the little boy towards her, Freya took a step back and shook her head.
"Thank you, and I'd love too...but I feel like I need to earn my place here."
Instantly, Madeline respected her. She then passed Henry over to Rebekah, who looked red with jealousy over not being offered first.
"If you would like me to, I can put a boundary spell around the compound-"
"-No offence," Marcel began. "But any spell you do, Davina is going to be there: just to make sure you don't do anything-"
