As Madeline prepared herself for the date with her ex-boyfriend, she couldn't help but feel nervous. She knew, without a doubt, that it was because she still had feelings for him. He had been the first (and only) boyfriend that she had had, and although she got the impression that he didn't want them to be back in a relationship, she hoped that they would eventually get back together. But why would she give him the time of day? Why would she give him another chance? He was manipulative and controlling, he made her feel awful about herself, and the amount of times he had cheated on her when they were together...Madeline sighed and pulled any random clothes on. Whatever she wore, she knew, wouldn't impress him so there was no point in her trying.
He picked her up outside her house, bibbing the horn rather than phoning her, and sped off as soon as she had closed the passenger side door.
"So...what film are we going to see?" She asked, putting her seatbelt on.
"Not bothered really." He replied, "I thought we'd see what was on once we got there."
Sam pulled up in the car park, and stepped out. He didn't bother waiting for her, as he made his way to the entrance and booked a couple of tickets.
Madeline joined him not a moment later, "What's are we seeing?"
"That new action movie."
Madeline hated action films, and Sam knew that. She forced a small smile on her face, before he took her by her hand as they joined the queue for drinks and snacks.
"Two cokes please." Sam said, "Make one a diet."
"Of course, any popcorn?" The vendor asked.
"Yes, just a small one." Sam said.
"And for you miss?"
"No, she doesn't need it." Sam replied before Madeline could. "She's watching her figure."
The brunette avoided eye contact from the guy behind the counter, knowing that he'd be looking at her with pity. She picked up her diet coke as Sam paid and they made their way into the screening, as the trailers were just finishing. He led her towards the back row, and tucked the two of them away in the corner.
Madeline sipped her coke, and it wasn't until the shitty film was halfway through that she felt Sam's hand on her leg. He leant towards her, and captured her lips with his own. She kissed him back, but frowned when he began undoing the top button on her jeans.
"No, Sam, we're in public!" She whisper scolded him as she pushed his hand off of her thigh, and turned her face away from his.
"Come on, Tyler Lockwood said that Vicki Donovan was game for it."
"Yeah, well, I'm not Vicki Donovan!"
He scoffed, before sitting back in his seat, "I forgot how boring you were."
As the film finished, and they filed out of the cinema, she slipped her hand down into Sam's - only for him to yank himself free from her.
"Sam?"
"I can't believe you!" He snapped, "I paid for a date tonight, and you wouldn't even let me get my dick wet!"
She threw the last of her coke in his face, before turning on her heel and storming towards his car.
"If you think I'm giving you a ride home after that, you can think again!" He snapped, getting in front of her and giving her a hard shove.
Her mouth dropped open as she stumbled on her feet, "You can't be serious? You're just going to leave me here, after all those animal attacks?"
"Watch me."
Madeline shouted after his vehicle as it sped out of the car park, and she had no choice but to walk. She had left her mobile phone at home, and she wouldn't have enough cash in her purse to pay for a taxi!
Of course, she was terrified. The road was dark, with tall trees on either side of the road - perfect for wild animals to lurk within. She was exhausted quickly, having skipped all her daily meals again and because she had no meat on her bones, she was cold too; her jacket did nothing for warmth.
A car slowed up beside her, and Madeline felt her anxiety peaking. If this was a murderer, she would not have the energy to scream let alone fight back. Not that anyone would be able to hear her out here.
"Madeline Gilbert, what a pleasant surprise!"
"Damon?" She frowned, before relaxing at spotting the familiar, leather clad man.
"That's my name." He grinned, "Forgive me for stating the obvious: but it appears that you need a ride."
"Would you mind?"
He flashed her his pearly whites, "Would I ask if I did?"
She opened the car door, and slipped into the passenger seat, "Thank you."
"You're welcome." He grinned, turning to face her. "Now, how about that drink?"
"You've just picked me up after my date abandoned me, and you think I'm in the mood for a drink?"
"Well, now that you put it that way...it sounds as though you need a drink." He grinned at her, "What do you say?"
"No."
He barked out a laugh, "I like you."
"Why?" She frowned, "I keep turning you down."
"Yeah, and I haven't killed you yet."
"Excuse me?"
"Oh, come on, relax!" He leant over and bumped her shoulder with his own, "Let's go to that dive bar we're so desperate to go to."
"I don't remember agreeing to go there."
"Yeah, well, I'm the driver and- whoops!" He turned the wheel in the direction of a car park. "Looks like we're here now."
He turned off the ignition, and got out of the car. Madeline rolled her eyes, but just as she reached for the door handle, Damon was there. "Milady." He held out a hand towards her and shot her a charming grin.
She couldn't help but giggle, "Fine. One drink."
"I've never heard that one before." He jested, "But okay, one bottle it is!"
