Over the next week, Madeline had had a visit from Jeremy and Elena, and Stefan and Damon. They stayed for a couple of days, before returning to Mystic Falls. Madeline was glad that they had come, but she was also glad when they had left - she was exhausted.

The older Gilbert sister was paranoid too. For the past couple of days, she had felt as though she wasn't alone. Klaus had reassured her that no vampire could enter the compound uninvited, and although that had slightly eased her mind...the paranoia was still there.

As she walked around the French Quarter with Henry strapped to her chest in a hammock-like baby carrier, Madeline had to keep looking over her shoulder. She knew there was someone watching her, so much so, that she had started carrying a small knife. She had never killed anyone before, not even a vampire, and although she hated the thought of doing it - she had felt as though she were being stalked since she had had Henry, and she would do anything to protect her son.

Marcel's approach had caught her unaware, and he gave her a concerned look. "Is everything alright?" He asked, "I keep seeing you looking out for someone."

"It's nothing." She lied, knowing that he - just like the three Original siblings - thought her as being paranoid. "I'm just looking around."

"Anything specific?" He asked, walking beside her as she put her arms around a sleeping Henry. "How's the little Prince?"

She smiled, "As wonderful as ever, Godfather Marcel."

Both Klaus and Madeline had named Marcel as godfather to Henry - along with Damon. They had yet to decide on a godmother, considering that it was going to be Hayley.

The dark skinned vampire walked with the mother and son throughout the French Quarter, before returning her to the compound when the baby began to get restless due to his hunger.

She handed Marcel the baby as she went to get a bottle from the kitchen. She had began to use a breast pump, because Klaus had complained that he wasn't able to bond with their son through feeding. After warming up the bottle and testing the temperature on the sensitive skin of her wrist, Madeline returned to the living room to hand over the bottle to Marcel.

She sat on the armchair opposite the vampire, and ran a hand through her hair. When she was with someone else, the 'stalker feeling' always seemed to be gone, which relaxed her.

"Where's Rebekah today?" She asked, "Still deciding on furniture?"

Marcel and Rebekah (with the permission of both Klaus and Elijah) had rekindled their flame, and moved in together in the house that Marcel had built for them back in the day.

"You know it." The vampire replied, with a small grin. "She's looking for a chez lounge, at the moment."

"Of course, she is."

Once Henry had had his bottle, Madeline took over to burp the infant and change his nappy, as Marcel left to check on things in the Quarter.

As soon as he left, however, Madeline instantly felt as though that presence were back. She was terrified that it was a ghost; they were her phobia, after all! Upon hearing a noise in the kitchen, Madeline called out to see if it were Marcel, or if one of the Originals had returned from their 'business'.

When she received no response, the brunette held Henry close to her chest as she grabbed her knife and went to investigate. She could hear someone moving one of Klaus's paintings, and she took a deep and unnerving breath before she peered around the corner.

There was no one there.

Henry started to cry, and as soon as Madeline had moved back out of the kitchen and turned her attention towards the infant - that was when she saw movement out of the corner of her eye.

With the knife at the ready, she turned the corner - to see the back of a hooded figure making a run for it.

"Hey!" She yelled, causing Henry to start wailing louder. Clutching him protectively to her chest, she gave chase only to run into the courtyard to find herself and Henry alone.

"Madeline-"

She span around so quickly, and brought the knife down - straight into Klaus' shoulder. He roared in pain and Madeline's eyes widened in horror at what she had done. Taking a step back and rocking the bawling child in her arms soothingly, she watched as Klaus ripped the knife out of his body and examined it with furious eyes.

"What on earth are you doing? How dare you!"

"There was someone here-"

"-And you thought it appropriate to run around like a mad woman, with a knife, holding my son!"

"What was I supposed to do, Klaus? Put him down somewhere and leave him unattended?" She cried, tears falling down her cheeks. "What if they would have taken him?"

"There is no one here, but us."

"I saw someone, I know I did!" She sobbed, her eyes wide as she stared up at him. "They were messing with that painting on the kitchen wall."

He took the infant from her. "I can't hear anyone."

"They disappeared." Was the only solution she could come up with, "I'm not being paranoid, Klaus. Why won't you believe me? I can't lie to you!"

Henry wasn't quieting down, "It's in your head, Madeline."

Her mouth dropped open, "It's not! Whoever it was, they were following me in the streets, I know they were. They left when Marcel was with me, and as soon as he was gone - they were back."

"So, being on your own has you seeing things?"

Her heart was racing in her chest, and she felt her breathing becoming more and more laboured, "No!" She couldn't stand there and be told that she was going mad. There was no way! She ran from him, and up the stairs of the compound before throwing herself down on the bed...but that was when she realised that Klaus hadn't healed from his stab wound. And she hadn't felt her heart flutter, and she didn't see pink. Also, Henry was usually instantly soothed by Klaus' voice.

"Klaus?" She asked, not raising her voice because she knew he would be able to hear her.

But there was no response.

She was overwhelmed with panic then, and she ran down the stairs in search of the Hybrid. "Klaus!" She called, unable to find him where she had left him with Henry, or anywhere.

Her phone rang, which was when she realised she had had several missed calls from her Promised One.

"Where are you!" She yelled down the phone, tears in her eyes, "Where's Henry!"

"Calm down, my love, tell me why you're panicking."

"You know why!" She snapped, "Just get back here, Klaus! Now! Don't take my son from me without telling me-"

"-I don't have him." Her heart stopped beating, "So, you'd better tell me now, my love: where is my son?"
