"when you meet your soulmate, it's one of the most special moments in your life that stick with you forever. you won't know who your soulmate is until you're 17 but trust me, the wait is worth it, because the moment you find out who it is, your perspective will change on everything." 6 year old henry listened intently to his mother, intrigued by the talk about finding a soulmate.
"but how will i know when i've met my soulmate?" little henry asked.
"you see this little symbol?" henry's mom asked, pointing at the 2 little connected hearts on her wrist, "you'll get one just like it but one that's unique to both you and your soulmate, it's the special bond that you'll have with your soulmate, whether it be something about space or engineering."
"or superheroes!" henry shouted excitedly, as his mother laughed.
"yes, even superheroes."

"this is utterly insane. my 18th birthday is in like four days and i still haven't gotten my little soulmate tattoo thing." henry complained to his friends as they all sat in his living room playing jenga.
"it's not that big of deal, henry. not everyone is destined to be with someone." jasper says, shoving a handful of chips into his mouth.
henry nods.
he knows it's true. not everyone is destined to be with someone, but the likelyhood of that is one in every billion people. he just couldn't believe he was that one.
everyone he knew had a soulmate: his best friend jasper had one, it was the blonde girl who worked at the dodge-a-line place. his friend blake had one, too, his soulmate was the new girl who had arrived a few months before blake's 17th.
damn, even his weird neighbor, colton, had one, it was the short red head who worked as a pizza delivery girl.
"i know, it's just something i've always looked forward to, knowing that i was destined to be with one person forever. someone that i was looking forward to love forever, you know?" henry explained.
"well, you never know, maybe your soulmate could show up any day now. after all, not everyone is lucky enough to have kid danger as their soulmate." blake says, making henry smile.
"yeah, i guess you're right. i mean anything could happen in four days."
"exactly, so stop being so bummed out and let's continue our game night." blake says, accidentally knocking down the tower of blocks.
the next morning, henry awoke and headed downstairs to join his family for breakfast.
"morning." henry yawned, taking a seat next to his sister at the family table.
"morning, sweetie." his mother said, placing a kiss on his head and a plate of waffles in front of him.
"ah, yes! waffles!" henry happily exclaims, beginning to pour syrup all over them.
"only the best for my favorite son." she smiles as he cuts into his waffles.
"he's your only son." his sister, piper, chimes as she scrolls through twitflash.
"exactly, which automatically makes him my favorite."
piper rolls her eyes as her mother sets a plate of eggs and bacon in front of her.
