nineteen ⇾ an easier goodbye

"you're leaving?" henry asked as him and charlotte stood by his locker, waiting for the bell to ring so they could head to their last class of the day.

"yeah, i leave for harvard tomorrow night after graduation." charlotte replied, messing with the spiral that held her notebook together. 

"i was really hoping to be able to spend a little more time with you. ugh, i feel horrible for not realizing that you'd be leaving so soon." he complained as they then headed to her locker, a couple feet away.

"hey, it's not your fault. you were out saving the world and trying to keep yourself together. i don't blame you for not having time to hang out." charlotte comforted.

"no, it doesn't matter. you're my best friend and you deserve to know how much i appreciate you."

"henry, you don't have to constantly be by my side for me to know that you appreciate me. we've been best friends since we were 2, nothing's ever going to change that." she said, putting her hand on his before the bell began to ring.

they separated and headed to class, continuing to talk about their plans after graduation.

at last, the final bell rang and school was out and the seniors were saying goodbye to all their teachers. some with hugs and some with not so nice gestures.

"we did it!" jasper exclaimed, as him, charlotte, and henry walked out of the swellview high doors for the last time.

"that we did." charlotte replied, hugging both of her best friends. "i can't believe it! we're no longer high schoolers!" henry exclaimed.

"we should hang out tonight, after work, at swellview park or something." henry said, as his friends nodded.

"yeah, for sure. a nice night out before we all have to go our own separate ways." jasper sighed, immediately making the mood drop.

the walked in silence for a few minutes before henry awkwardly coughed.

"um, so ice cream at the park after work?" henry asked.

jasper and charlotte nodded. "sure thing, but can it just be us 3? like with no ray or piper?" charlotte asked.

jasper and henry quickly agreed.

it's not like they didn't like to to hang out with them, it's just a little messier when they go with.

"schowz! drop the laser!" ray yelled as he chased after schowz.

"never!" schowz yelled back.

charlotte, henry, and jasper glanced at them weirdly, exiting the elevator and quickly ducking before getting stung by a laser.

"hey! they missed me this time!" jasper celebrated, right before ray accidentally blasted a laser at him.

"nevermind!" jasper exclaimed, collapsing face forward onto the man cave floor.

"haha! you missed me!" schowz teased as he ran out of the man cave and into the back and ray quickly following after him.

henry and charlotte rolled their eyes at the 2 grown men.

"i feel like we should call the babysitter again." henry said, as charlotte began to mess with the monitors.

"we can't, all 16 quit. apparently, lasers is way out of their pay checks." charlotte explained as she turned around to face henry.

"can someone help me?" jasper asked, the shock of the laser still not wearing off.

henry and charlotte quickly ran over and dragged jasper onto the spinning couch, laying him awkwardly on his side.
