charlotte was furious and could not believe her ears when henry asked her to run errands in order to get the dance ready.

living in a small town and going to a not-so-big school meant that the end of the school year parties were lame and made a two thousand word essay sound more exciting, so when the new guy in town says they should have a dance, everyone gets excited.

being the one to propose having a dance also meant that he would have to find a venue, music, snacks, drinks, and chaperones on his own in less than a day.

henry had only arrived in swellview four months prior to school year ending so he was still considered the new kid, especially since he had been the most exciting thing to happen in almost a decade.

a short while after he'd arrived, he became quite taken with charlotte and she couldn't deny that she didn't find him slightly intriguing.

they had spent a lot of time together and at one point, even went to the movies on a date.

so to say the least, charlotte couldn't believe he hadn't asked her to the dance, but instead asked her if she could head to a convenience store to get chips.

it was even more awful that he had done it in front of her friends, who were eager to see him ask her and then literally disappoint them all.

"oh, here he comes!" chloe squealed, as henry and a few of his friends walked up to girls sitting in the courtyard after school.

"hey, charlotte." henry greeted, a bright smile on his face.

charlotte smiled back, thinking: yes! he's going to ask me to the dance!

"i have something to ask you." he stated, a nervous expression taking over his features, making charlotte and her friends even more eager.

"sure, what's up?"

"do you think you could go the convenience store and ask if they could donate some chips?" he asks, no hesitation in his voice.

all the girls gaped at him, shocked that it was literally the opposite of what they were hoping for.

"anything else you'd like to ask?" she urged, trying to be as subtle as possible.

"oh, yeah," he replied, bringing a smile back to the girls' faces, "could you get some sodas, too?"

everyone's faces fell as the words left his mouth. charlotte plastered a fake smile on to her face.

"sure, no problem." she replied, making henry smile gratefully at her before walking away in the opposite direction.

she knocked on the door of his house, or tried to at least, as she held the bags of chips in her arms.

henry swung the door open, smiling at her like he always did, causing a storm of butterflies to bubble up in her stomach.

"i got the snacks." she said, as if it wasn't obvious.

"great, thanks so much." he replied, about to grab the bags from her arms when she interrupted his actions.

"so, are you going to ask me anything else?" she questioned, hoping that he would ask her now that it was just the two of them, and his little sister who was sitting on the couch behind him.

"yeah, actually, do you think you could decorate the conference room?" henry asked, still oblivious to what charlotte wanted.

charlotte nodded before frustratingly dropping the chips and walking away from henry's house.

hours later, after very angrily decorating the conference room in the hotel nearby, and getting ready for the dance, charlotte was at the dance talking to chloe and bianca.

the dance hadn't even officially started and it was already a big hit.

"i really wish luke would've asked me to the dance." bianca sighed, as she glanced longingly at the brunette across the room.

"well, he's heading this way so make a move." chloe urges as charlotte pushed bianca towards. bianca glanced at them with wide eyes, charlotte and chloe giving her two thumbs up as encouragement.

they watched as the scene played out and then gave each other a satisfactory smile as bianca and luke walked into the conference room together.

"hey, didn't you have a date to the dance?" charlotte  turned to chloe, knowing her best friend and her crush had hit it off a little while ago.

"oh, jasper? yeah, he tried to ask me to the dance but it didn't go too well so-" chloe's explanation was cut short as gasps were heard around the hotel lobby.

jasper was making a big entrance, dressed as a prince, with a single rose in his hand. he walked straight towards chloe, a big smile on his face.

"chloe, would you like to go the dance with me?" he asked, making chloe's cheeks redden.

"i'd love to!" she exclaimed, linking her arms with his and making their way into the conference room turned dance.

everyone soon followed in after them, officially beginning the dance.

charlotte stood outside of the doors, not knowing exactly what she was waiting for. she'd lost all hope of henry asking her since all her friends had a date except her.

the door opened, making her look up to see henry walking towards her.

"hey, come on, let's dance." he says, a bright smile on his face, making charlotte want to hurl her drink at him.

"hey? you can't just walk out here and say 'let's dance'. i've been waiting all day for you to ask me to the dance." she replied, obviously upset about the circumstances.

she knew henry was slightly oblivious, but this was pushing it.

"really? i just thought we were, uh, together." he said with a small shrug of his shoulders.

charlotte's anger disappeared, a small smile taking over.

"you did? like together together?" she questioned, making him nod.

"well, yeah, if that's okay with you."

"it is." she smiled at him before accepting his hand as they walked into the dance together.

it was definitely going to be a dance to remember.
