I played Dungeons and Dragons for the first time in a while today, and boy was it a doozy. I leveled up and got some new powers, so that's what this drawing is based on.
It's also based on the fact that the wood elves came to attack out party's town, along with goblins and three acid-spitting dragons. Rude. Anyway, for that reason I decided to give Vaala some armor. Even with reference pictures, it seems like I can't draw armor for the life of me—there's so many small and intricate details to it—but I did my best. The helmet is...something. In hindsight, I'd probably nix the red cape or at least change its color.
I do like how I changed her hair for the super-serious battle. I may actually keep it like this. The bottom parts are all dynamic and flowy now.
For the actual battle, it was really close for a while, but Vaala managed to scrape by. But what about her little owl friend? I came up with a random mechanic that I (somewhat lazily) named the "Owl Pocket", which allows Hroth to snuggle up in a little clothing pocket somewhere on Vaala's person and just hang out in safety. The pocket itself only manifests if you actively think about it, so if Vaala trips and falls or something, her little buddy won't be squished. I guess Hroth is allowed to think of it too, otherwise he could potentially be trapped in there forever.
That's all for now. I hope you enjoyed today's art, and see you next time!
