It was the last three words that had done it. Dad was still suspicious, but mum didn't care, she threw herself at Ethan. Ethan froze, fighting not to react, his eyes found mine as though questioning what to do.

"Mum, please, it's been really rough," I pleaded. I wasn't sure how much to say without going into the entire story, and I was too tired for that.

"Of course, of course," mum released Ethan and stepped back, tears of relief down her cheeks. "I apologise, Mr. Hunter, but I'm so glad that Morgan is back with us."

Ethan nodded. "I understand."

"What happened, Morgan?" dad asked, cutting to the chase. "Where were you? Why were you in France?"

"I– I don't know how I got there, I–" I was stumbling over my words because now that I thought about it, saying that I went into another world and was transported to France made me sound insane.

"Honey," mum reprimanded. "They look exhausted, let them sleep, they can talk to us tomorrow."

"Thanks, mum," I said. "Do you mind if we use my old room?"

"Both of you? I thought you were dating–"

"We broke up." I felt Ethan's stare on me like a blaze of fire.

"Oh, sweetheart..."

"It's fine, mum... can we talk tomorrow?" I pleaded, I could feel Ethan pounding at my head for answers.

"Sorry, sweetheart, yes of course, we will see you in the morning... will... Ethan, be with you?"

She was asking if I wanted Ethan to sleep on the couch. "No, I feel better with him near."

She looked confused, but we were all tired and confused, I felt like we were all walking a fine line hoping to get answers but not upset each other other. "Okay, dear, you head on up, we will see you in the morning."

Giving them a last hug, I took Ethan's hand and pulled him to the stairs to head up. Each step we took had exhaustion stepping one step closer. It was like I hadn't truly relaxed until I was under the shelter of my own parents. Ethan didn't talk much, just used the bathroom after me – once he had checked it to make sure it was safe, which he also did with my old bedroom that was painted a light cream colour with grey furniture. Inside my room, we undressed and crawled beneath the covers.
