A few more weeks past, and instead of stressing about finding a job, mum and I had decided to teach Ethan all the new things that had come about in the past ten years. I think it was mums idea to distract me from learning I had no job, no home, not even a phone. Apparently my douche bag ex-boyfriend had stopped renting our home and had sold most of my things so that he could move in with the girl he had been cheating on me with. It was only now that I was more relived with the way things had turned out, if it hadn't, I might have married a cheater and thief and have been none the wiser.

It was surprising the amount of technology that had come out over the years, the change in music and films. But Ethan had taken to it all with a surprising ease, or that was the façade he gave off. He only thing he truly seemed to somewhat struggle with was all the new technology.

At the end of those few weeks, mum had decided that it was time to once again face the outside world, the scariest part was that Ethan was looking forward to it more than I was. I didn't want to go and walk amongst the crowds, but it was the curiosity on Ethan's face that had me agreeing, which had then sent my mother into a frenzy of searching for clothes for us to wear, which had then developed into her deciding that we needed to go clothes shopping, aka, my personal worst nightmare.

The clothing store my mum chose to drive us to was opposite a very popular shopping centre, which meant that as it was a Saturday, it wasn't only busy, but super busy. It took us just over thirty minutes to find a parking spot, and even then we'd had to then walk fifteen minutes back to the store. I had tried talking mum out of going to the store, unfortunately it hadn't worked.

As we walked into the clothes store, Ethan was at my side, mum was almost dancing ahead of us, taking us to the female clothes as they were on the bottom floor first. I knew I was dragging my feet, so instead, I looked at Ethan to see him looking around, staring at the people, other women, other men, who were staring back – though that probably had something to do with Ethan's clothes, he was wearing dad's clothes, but they were too small for him, they were stretched across his chest, and his legs looked like they were about to rip the seams of the jeans he was wearing. He definitely needed clothes more than I did. Even if the tightness emphasised his muscles that he had gained from the forest from the other world.

That one thought about the other world made me as cold as ice and I walked on to catch up with my mum, Ethan followed, gaze flicking left and right. It wasn't until fifteen minutes later of saying "yes", "no", or "maybe" to my mum that I realised that I had started to crowd under Ethan due to his edginess. As though something was coming for us, and Ethan was ready to protect us.

"Ethan?"

He made a noise in the back of his throat to tell me that he had heard me calling his name.

"Ethan? What's wrong?"

"Nothing."

"So why are you so nervous?" I stroked his arms as they wrapped around me.

But he didn't answer, instead, he moved us closer to my mum. "Mrs. Staren, would you mind if we returned home?"

His politeness made mum smile, but it made me even more nervous.

"Of course, I'll tell you what," mum started. "If you and Morgan head back to the car, I'll purchase these and meet you there."

Ethan nodded and took the car keys that mum held out in our direction. A moment later, before anything more could be said, Ethan was pulling me out of the store and away from the direction of where we had parked. I didn't question him, I should have, but I trusted him. Something had put him on edge, last time harm had been caused, so this time, I was going to stay close.

We took several turns, from what I could tell, all the turns were completely random... until I saw mum's car, how? How had he managed to get us back to the car? Just as we reached mums car and I saw mum heading for us, Ethan pushed me into the backseat and got in behind me. His eyes were going everywhere as he pushed us both down low.

"Ethan? What? Get off! What's wrong with you?" I pushed, but he didn't budge a inch.

"Stay down!" Ethan growled, making me freeze beneath him.

"Ethan?" Just as I called his name, I heard the car door open, making me jump.

"Morga– Oh!" Mum paused when she saw us. "Are you... okay, Ethan?"

I shrugged as much as I could underneath Ethan.

"Drive," I saw mum flinch back at the harsh word. But she nodded and started driving.

As Ethan turned back to look down at me, I asked him what was wrong. This time, he answered. "He's following us."
