My upset had put Ethan on edge, then something had touched him from behind. He spun on the spot, his hand in a fist. The hit was echoed in the room, along with a gasp of shock and a choke of terror and a feminine scream. Ethan's body backed into mine, making me back up into the wall behind us. It was only when Ethan crouched that I saw who he had hit.
Shock froze my veins. Ice and thunder crashed together like a furious storm. Loud noises, Ethan's snarl of warning, barking.
"Ethan! Ethan, snap out of it!" a man's voice. "Ethan, Morgan needs you! Focus on Morgan!"
Moments past until I felt arms wrap around me, a solid wall of muscle crowding me. His warmth seeped into me, under my skin until I could breathe.
"Why are you so upset?" Ethan whispered in my ear, his breath tickling me.
Looking into his eyes, I knew he would accept nothing less than the truth. "Your mum said that I seduced you into staying with me, keeping you away from your family... She said that she would give me the reward for bringing you home but that I had to leave once I was finished in the bathroom... I don't want to leave you Ethan!"
"I told you that I will not leave you. Ever. And I meant it, Morgan. I will not leave you. Not even for them."
I laughed, but not because it was funny. "I love you too."
