He was like a giant. I wanted to say that he was about nine foot with claws and sharp teeth and fuzzy hair while standing on two legs. But in truth, I knew in the back of my mind, he was nothing like that.
But even so, a new flash of fear, making my head spin, shocked through me as this figure crouched so to be more eye level as I was now sitting next to the cliff that I nearly died on. But even crouched he was an imposing figure. Suddenly, staying in the tree with a hungry stomach was starting to look like a good idea.
Licking my lips, his dark eyes watched the movement with hawk like eyes that seemed to be assessing me in curiosity. He didn't seem like a threat, dressed in something made out of animal fur that looked something like a primeval version of shorts or boxers.
Looking around where he was crouched, I saw that I had little choice but to either die here, or run and try and find a police station or a house.
Standing slowly, he didn't move, just watched me silently. Watching my every move like I was a rare bug that he had never seen before. It was unnerving, having such an intense stare focused completely on me.
Slowly, I moved away and closer to the forest edge, yet still he remained watching me without moving, without saying a word. Looking him over, I knew that as easily as he had saved me, he could harm me. And that wasn't something I was willing to sit around with a crazily dressed man in the middle of a never ending forest and discuss: Hey, thanks for saving me, but why did you? Did you save me to kill me?
Mentally, I rolled my eyes. This forest was making me feel insane! For all I knew, he was the kindest man alive. Yet as he stood, I was running before I knew I had taken a step. Fleeing from him. Running as fast as I could, my heartbeat thumping in my chest, my breathing erratic, panic began to well up inside me again like a balloon that was ready to pop.
Then as a howl sounded, a side I never knew I had came into play and I ran faster and faster as I feared the man and the wolves chasing me to make me their next meal. I kept running for two reasons, the first was the wolves because I figured I was too close to their young and that was why I was being attacked, the second was the silent man who had saved me then stared at me like I was a bug he was ready to stomp on if necessary. So I ran, and I didn't look back.
