A/N: Hey Keeper fans! I'm sorry I haven't updated on this story. I'm kinda thinking about writing another story where Sophie and everyone are married and have kids. What do you guys think? Please tell me. Anyways, voilà le huitième chapitre!
"Is she awake yet?"
"No."
"Humph. Well, tell me when she is, we need to have a little chat."
Sophie opened her eyes. Or at least, she tried to. It felt like her eyelids were glued shut. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't. After a few seconds of struggling, she gave up.
Part of her just wanted to go back to sleep, where it was comfortable and warm. There was a little voice in her head, constantly encouraging her to sleep. Another part of her wanted to know what was going on. Where her friends okay? Keefe?
Wait a second. Since when did she worry about Keefe first? Usually it was Fitz. But as she thought of his teal eyes, she didn't blush or feel butterflies. She couldn't say the same thing when she thought about ice blue eyes though.
Think about boys later Sophie, she chided herself. You have other problems.
Sophie noticed that her hands and legs were bound with chains. Or at least, she thought it was chains. That what it felt like. Sadly she still couldn't open her eyes.
She heard footsteps from her... left? Right? Right now, it seemed that all senses were dulled.
Heels slapping against the floor, the person came closer. Sophie opened her eyes successfully and saw a young woman walking towards her.
As she came closer, Sophie heard one of her favourite songs from The Forbidden Cities, Sucker. (Just pretend that the song existed when she lived with the humans.)
The young woman looked like she was Sophie's age. Humming to the song, she walked right up to Sophie.
Sophie tried to sit up, but was held firmly by the chains. She was right.
Quickly, Sophie noticed that she had green eyes. And she looked exactly like Charlotte, just older, and her hair was longer.
"Hi Sophie." Charlotte turned off the music. "It's good to see you again."
"What do you want?"said Sophie. Her throat was dry and her voice sounded painfully like it did the first time that she was kidnapped.
"When you got accepted to the school and I didn't, you took everything away from me. My family was disappointed in me. My friends stopped hanging out with me. And then, my mom sent me to a boarding school."
Sophie tried to transmit to Fitz, but once again, it felt like there was a wall around her mind.
"You never give up, do you?"said Charlotte. To Sophie's surprise, she took out a tiny silver key and unlocked the chains.
"What?" Sophie couldn't help herself, but regretted it when she saw the smug look on Charlotte's perfect face.
"I'm not like the Neverseen or the Black Swan. I don't believe in keeping people prisoners. Don't try to escape though, there's an invisible barrier."
Sophie stood up, and winced as she felt the pain on the side of her head. Gently, she touched the bump.
"You know about the Neverseen and Black Swan?"
"Of course. The Neverseen were pathetic though. I'm not surprised you defeated them that easily."
"Easily? It wasn't easy! People got hurt! People died!"
"That's nothing compared to what I'm planning."
"Don't you dare hurt my friends!" Sophie yelled. She tried to inflict on Charlotte, but it only caused more pain.
Her vision blurred and for a moment, she thought she was going to pass out. But as quickly as the pain came, it went away.
Charlotte laughed. "Why don't you go outside for a walk? I'll explain after."
"I don't want to hear your stupid explanation."growled Sophie.
"Trust me, you will." Charlotte walked away and turned her music back on.
Sophie was exhausted. Every single muscle in her body was aching with pain, begging for her to stay where she was. But she knew that when her loved ones were in danger. Were Grady and Edaline safe? Her friends? Silveny and Greyfell?
Taking Charlotte's advice, Sophie stood up and walked towards what she assumed was the exit.
She opened the door, making a loud creeeak like in the horror movies.
It wasn't the exit at all. The room was dark and cool. Sophie looked around and saw screens with numbers on them. Each number had a different colour. Pink, blue, white, green, yellow... She found a keyboard and randomly typed in a number.
Screen number 6 turned in and... Sophie saw Linh, at Everglen, sleeping. She noticed the her friend's eyes were puffy Sophie pressed number one and the first screen turned on. Who was in it? It was... herself. She was shocked at how messed up she looked. Her eyes had black circles around them, her hair was covered in grease and dirt, and her face was gleaming in sweat.
She looked away from the screen, and pressed another number. This time it was Biana. The brunette was staring at her Imparter, her face emotionless. Her makeup was smeared and hair was fuzzy.
An invisible hand squeezed Sophie's heart. How long would it be until Charlotte hurt them? Days? Hours? Minutes?
There was only one more person Sophie wanted to see. She pressed every single number. And when she pressed the last one...
There he was. His usually perfectly styled blond hair was messed up and sticking all over the place. Blue eyes dull, Sophie watched Keefe sit on his bed at Candleshade. His misery was impossible to miss.
He was blaming himself. Again.
She needed to contact her friends somehow. She had to let them know that she was... okay.
Then it hit her. Charlotte was watching her friends. The only question left: How?
Sophie slipped a hand in her pocket and found nothing. She was hoping there would be a hidden tracker.
"Hey! What are you doing in here?!"
Sophie turned around and saw a masked man. His voice sounded familiar but she couldn't place it...
He took her arm and dragged her out of the room and to the real exit. Locking the door, he walked away.
Now locked out of Charlotte's building, Sophie noticed it was raining. A lot. Shivering and getting soaked, Sophie folded her arms around her chest, she looked up to the sky, hoping that she could see the sun through the dark rain clouds. No luck.
Every drop was freezing cold, as if it was ice. Wiping the water out of her eyes, she spotted a beautiful blue flower, hidden in a city of weeds. Sophie realized she was in a garden. She walked forwards, hoping to find shelter.
If only Calla was with her. The gnome would solve her problems in a second, if not less.
After walking through muddy paths for what felt like a million years, Sophie saw a huge tree. It was had bright yellow leaves and little white flowers. Soaked, miserable, and cold Sophie curled up under neath it and very, very slowly feel asleep.
