"Hey Tam," Linh walked into his room, not bothering to knock.
"What?" Tam looked up from his notebook.
"Have you talked to Dex recently?"
Tam shook his head. "No, his parents told me that they wanted him to stay home."
"Really?"
"Yeah, they must be really worried."
Linh nodded in agreement. "What are you doing?"
Tam rolled his eyes. "Why are you so nosy today?"
Linh shrugged. "I'm bored."
Tam showed her the notebook, filled with his messy writing.
He had written down everything they knew about Charlotte, along with what was happening.
Linh squinted at the pages as she flipped through them. "How can you even read this?"
"It's clear enough for me,"he replied, snatching it back.
"Tam...Can I ask you something?"
"I guess. What's on your mind?"
Linh raised her head, her silvery blue eyes meeting his. "Do you think that...Sophie and Keefe?"
Tam looked away.
Last night, he had spent countless hours tossing and turning, asking himself that question.
Will Sophie and Keefe come back?
And honestly...
He didn't think so.
It made Tam incredibly sad, knowing that two of his friends were out there somewhere, and that they couldn't do anythink about it.
But looking at Linh's heartbreaking expression, he couldn't bring himself to voice his thoughts.
"We'll find them,"he lied, trying to reassure her. "Sophie and Keefe are strong."
Linh narrowed her eyes.
Uh oh.
"Your lying,"she hissed. "I know your lying."
She had seen right through his lie. Why had he even tried? This was Linh. His twin sister. Of course she would know.
"What are you hiding?"she said, glaring at him.
"Linh, stop. This is probably what she wants."
"I knew it,"she replied coldy, still glaring daggers.
"You're betraying us."
Tam stared at his sister in shock. "L-Linh?"
He had never seen her this angry at him. Never.
"You're a mistake Tam. You know what? I wish you were never born. It would have fixed everything."
Tam froze. "You don't mean that."
"I do,"she snapped. "I mean every bit of it."
Her words hit Tam like a dagger to the heart.
"What happened to you?"he asked, worried and hurt.
She didn't respond and just walked out, slamming the door behind her.
Tam stared at the closed door. That wasn't Linh. She was sweet, kind, loving, and quiet.
Whoever that was...Definitely wasn't his twin.
Or was it?
A tiny voice in his mind spoke up.
