"How long do you think it will be until-"

Keefe cut her off, oblivious to her annoyance. "I don't know."

"Um...I didn't even finish my question.". Sophie glared at him.

Yes but you've been asking it for the past few hours so it wasn't difficult to guess, thought Keefe.

Instead if voicing what he was thinking, he reassured her.

"Maybe she's just waiting for you to get better,"he said. He knew that she was just stressed, but honestly, she was starting to get on his nerves.

Keefe sighed, and stood up. Sophie glanced at him. "Where are you going?"

He shrugged. "To find food."

"I told you that-"

"I really don't care anymore! If I die, then I die! Too bad!"he snapped, immediately regretting his tone when he saw the look of hurt on Sophie's face. He was about to say something but she beat him to it.

"I'm going to go for a walk. And maybe...Find another room to stay in."she mumbled. She walked out of the room, not looking back.

You messed up bad.

Keefe groaned, running his hands down his face. Why did he have to lose his cool at that exact moment?

He thought about Fitz. Sophie refused to say a single word about what they had talked about it, but Keefe understood one thing; She was angry at Fitz.

Even though he didn't have his special ability, he could still read other people's emotions pretty well.

Keefe flopped down on the bed, his mind filled with dozens of questions.

He ignored them until a specific one came interrupted the others.

Will Fitz save us?

Of course he will. He's our friend. Why would you even ask yourself that?

Keefe mentally scolded himself for even doubting Fitz' loyalty.

I wonder where Ro is, he thought randomly.

After they defeated the Neverseen, all the bodyguards had left. The Council saw no reason of keeping them around.

Secretly,Keefe missed having the ogre around. Sure she was annoying, but he could talk with her about anything. Especially his crush on Sophie. Even though her love advice sucked, it was better than nothing.

"Keefe?"

Keefe raised his head to see Sophie standing in the doorway. She looked excited, and nervous at the same time.

"Hey um about me snapping at you earlier...Sorry?"

Sophie bit her lip, nodding. "It's uh...Fine. Really."

She shook her head. "I found something that you might want to see."

Keefe frowned. "What is it?"

"I don't know, I think it might be a secret room."

"Okay, I'm coming." He stood up, wincing as pain shot through his bruised leg.

Sophie lead him downstairs. Yes, apparently this place had more than one floor.

She went right past a guard who did nothing but narrow his eyes at Keefe. Wow. Stupid.

The she stopped at a wall. "Here,"she said, gesturing to nothing.

Keefe looked at her. "There's nothing."

Sophie rolled her eyes. "Stop joking around. Do you have any idea how to open it?"

"Uh...I'm not kidding. There's literally nothing but a wall."

"So...You don't see the locked door covered in ash?"

"No."

"Here." Sophie grabbed his hand and pushed it against the wall. He jumped back in shock when he felt a something similar to a doorknob.

"Okay, I believe you!"said Keefe, surprised.

"Help me find a way to- Nevermind." Sophie walked straight through the wall.

Is this a prank or something?

He took a deep breath and stepped forwards. To his surprise, he passed right through it.

"Foster? Where did you go?"

"Keefe! Come!"

He turned around to the sound of her voice but saw no one. "Foster?"

"Stop pretending you can't see me,"she said, this time to his left.

He still couldn't see her. "This isn't funny!"

"No, it isn't,"she replied, but this time her voice sounded...Different.

The room was dark, and Keefe suddenly noticed that he couldn't see anything. He stumbled forwards blindly, try to find the door.

"Foster, where is the exit?"

"You want to leave?" Suddenly the temperature dropped, leaving Keefe shivering.

"You're not Sophie,"he muttered, backing up against the wall.

"No,"the voice agreed. "I'm not. But I'm sure you'll be glad to see me."

Keefe recognized that voice. He heard it almost every night in his dreams.

No...Please no. She's gone. She's dead.

"Your dead!"he shouted. "Charlotte stop messing with me!"

He tried to regulate his body temperature, but failed.

"That's what you thought? You thought that I was really going to die so easily?"

A finger tapped his shoulder.

"Did you miss mommy dearest?"

"How are you alive...You killed yourself!"

Lady Gisela smiled at him coldly. "Like I said...I don't die easily. Surprise."
