All heads suddenly turned to out the windscreen.

The girl was one of 'them'. As she got up her back twisted to a weird angle, her blank eyes set on her target. She made a gurgling noise as she got up onto her legs shakily and jumped at Kyle.

Jason and Rose were out of the car with their guns before anyone could speak. Rose shot it right off Kyle's arm. Right in between its eyes, but as it fell to the ground another problem arose.

It had bitten a massive chunk out of Kyle's arm.

"SHIT, OH MY GOD," Jenna yelled, "MEL, NIKI, CAN YOU GET THE MEDICINE BOX,"

We found the large metal box with a red cross on it. we raced out to them and put the box on the ground next to rose who was tying a piece of fabric above the bite to stop the bleeding. Kyle had passed out from the shock. She cleaned it as well as she could with bottled water. Soon it became apparent that he wasn't going to live.

"he is going to turn into one of them, a walking corpse, like that girl," Jason said sadly.

It was obvious though, the colour in his skin was draining and his heart had already stopped, he already looked like one.

"We cant just...," I said,

"what? leave him here, we have to, if we want to live," Jenna said as she got up and put a bullet through his head.

It was another awkward quiet drive after that.

We drove along the highway for an hour until we were well out of town when the car started running out of fuel.

"We'll have to stop here," Rose said pulling into a petrol station.

We pulled up next to a pump and all got out.

"Why don't you girls go check out the shop," Jenna asked us, like she was trying to get rid of us,

"I'll go with them," Jason said,

we walked into the shop carefully. Jason had his gun out, just in case.

"Are you girls okay?" he asked "it must have been a pretty big day for you, for all of us,"

No one answered.

"there is a lot of food in here, but not much in cans, which we need," he said finally, after we searched the whole place. "they sold firewood here too, so we can have a fire tonight,"

"that would be good, I'm cold already," Niki said rubbing her hands together.

Even though it was well into October, in Australia the hot days cooled into chilly nights, and our singlet tops and shorts didn't help.

After we raided the whole place we had, tinned food, fresh food to eat before it goes bad, fire wood, lighters, gum so people keeping watch wont fall asleep, and pain killers.

"It looks like that's it. I'll go get some bags to put all that stuff in," he told us as he walked out.

For the first time since we were in that tiny room we were completely alone, we just looked at each other, already sensing that we had grown from the last time we were alone like this, not in a tiny dark room, but before any of this happened. We also sensed that we would have to grow up a lot faster, and for the first time we cried. We clung to each other, and cried. I don't know how long we were like that, it could have been seconds or minutes or hours or days, but it felt good to just have someone who was in the same situation as you to vent all the terrible stuff that was going on, all the anger, all the sorrow, all the hate, and knowing that they were going through exactly the same thing and had exactly the same feelings.
