Mel POV

"What?" I heard myself say

"We have to leave now," Niki said, the urgency in her voice and the serious look on her face stopped me from asking questions.

I swung my legs over the side of the bed and attempted to stand but my legs buckled underneath me.

"What happened to me?" I asked looking down at my slim figure, my fingers didn't look at all how I remembered them, they were pale and so thin my knuckles and joints were sticking out. They looked like a skeleton's hands.

Niki, obviously seeing my distress, said, "I know but we have to leave now or we will be trapped here, put this on," she said throwing a black hoodie at me, that matched her own, as she gathered up her backpack. It was full of supplies, bottled water, canned food and medicine she had obviously gotten form this hospital looking place. The hoodie was way too big for me but I couldn't exactly complain.

She helped me to my feet and put my arm around her wet shoulders so she could help me walk and we walked out of the building onto a battlefield.

Niki POV

We are doing it. The plan is working perfectly. So far.

We crossed the courtyard, heading towards the carpark. That is where everyone will meet up. My part was debatably the easiest. I had to wake up Mel then wait for everyone at the carpark. For that to work though everyone else's jobs had to fit in perfectly, all the distractions had to work perfectly. First Laurel, Kajal, Pylot and Sarah had to set a building on fire, we decided on the Canteen/ Home EC building since it won't be considered suspicious right away, then once it is burning and everyone is distracted Laurel will give the signal to the other groups. One group, with Felix, Dylan and Zoe, would sneak to The Cage while everyone was distracted by the fire and open the corpse side, releasing them into the school to create another distraction. And the other group with Emma, Brooke, Jade, Johanna and Jasmine, was to wait for the signal before Jade moved heavy clouds over the school making it rain, to signal to me that the corpses had been released and we had to get out and create another distraction as water was running low and some "disappeared" earlier today along with some food.

I even in the dark of the night I could see the black pillar of smoke that filled the air and the faint orange glow coming from the other side of the school and the rain hurtled down to the school in big, heavy drops saturating our clothes, rendering even our thick winter hoodie useless against the cold. Everyone had almost don't their job too well. It also wasn't long until I heard the growls of the corpses behind us. I used that as incentive to power on through the chaos of guards rushing around, trying to organise everyone, too busy to notice two more figures wandering around.

We reached the carpark where Emma was waiting for us with the rest of her group.

"Hey," I said as we approached.

"Hey," Emma said sounding very annoyed. She was not happy that she got left babysitting the younger ones while Zoe got to go with Felix and Dylan into all the action. She was also wearing the same black hoodie that we had looted in our last supply run.

"Good to see you up Mel," She added, this time not sounding like she wanted to kill someone.

"Thanks?" Mel replied, she was still very confused by everything and to add to that the exhaustion had just hit her again.

Emma smiled, then she looked behind us and her face dropped.

"It's Mark, he's looking for us. We have to go now!" She whispered and I looked behind to find torch lights dancing along the closest building. I looked back at the dark shadows that were the two small cars across the road that we had planned. We had made sure they had full tanks of fuel and tires on our last run.
