"How many are there?" Eva asked determination in her voice.
"Five." I replied, as I looked again, confident in my answer.
"All kids?" she asked, I felt like I was in a game of twenty questions.
"Yep," I replied again, still looking, they were all crouching behind the closest shelf in one of the aisles, "They know we're here."
Tyler swore under his breath, joining the conversation, "How old do they look?"
"Two like ni- eightish, and three about Emma's age."
"Wha-" Eva was going to ask something else but I cut her off.
"Whoa, wait, something's happening," I said as I saw one of the figures seem to disappear, I searched around for the figure of a girl that disappeared, like scrolling a mouse wheel to zoom in and out until she interrupted me.
"What do you want?" She said, a hostile tone in her voce, from right behind the door. She scared me so much my vision automatically snapped to her, right in front of me, then pushing my vision out of the building all together, resulting in me suddenly falling to the ground again.
"H- how did you get there so fast?" I asked, dazed and shocked, but Eva answered her question almost cutting me off.
"We are scouts from a settlement not far from here, we have space for people like you."
"A lot of people for a scouting mission. How can you see us?" she asked suspiciously.
"We have people with powers like you," Eva said simply.
"Like what?" She asked, curiously now. Eva looked almost drained from all the questions she had to answer on the spot but encouraged by the curiosity she was showing.
"Well Niki here can see through walls, that's how we saw you, we have half a dozen people who can change into animals,"
"Sick!" the girl cut Eva off, excitement showing in her voice. Eva grinned at this excitement almost wickedly, it scared me, like she- we were tricking her into joining our 'settlement'.
"And we have Emma and Felix who can control heat and cold," Eva continued, "and Dylan can change the shape and material of his hands. You can come out and see for yourself if you want."
"Um," she replied unsure, "what do you think?" she asked someone inside with her.
A male voice replied in a hushed tone "I don't know, maybe just us, but this place is on its last legs, it'll be good to get out of here"
"Ok" she agreed to both the boy inside with her and Eva. They started taking away the boxes blocking the door and opened the door slowly. The girl was Indian, her long black hair cascading down her back in waves. The boy was also dark skinned, slightly lighter than the girl, he also had black wavy hair, almost in an afro, adding significantly to his height.
They looked shocked at how many people were out here but it only took a little more convincing to get them to come with us, the other members of their group looked like a family, minus the parents, The two smaller girls clung to their older sister like their life depended on it, maybe it did now. One had blonde hair the other with brown hair and the oldest with back hair, like an ombre family. The older ones talked to Tyler and Eva on the bus for a while, until he pointed to us, at the back of the bus again, and they started making their way towards us, almost getting more attention from the other group than Felix, who was sitting at the front of the bus again. Almost.
They made their way past the group to us, we knew they were coming towards us, they knew that we knew so when they got up to us the older girl just said,
"Hi."
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
They introduced themselves soon after that, the dark skinned girl, Kajal, 15, seemed like the leader of the group, and the boy, 'Pylot', was second in command. 'Pylot' was actually a funny story, no one in his group knew his real name, and he told them to call him Pylot when he joined them, as Kajal put it, "he won't even tell us his name". The sisters, Sarah, Johanna and Jasmine were very quiet, especially the younger girls, they didn't even say their names when everyone was introducing themselves, their older sister said them.
The first thing I actually heard Johanna say was, "Where does that sad boy at the front go."
Silence. Sarah could tell instantly that it wasn't something we really wanted to talk about right now.
"Sorry, you don't have to answer that," she apologised, a little embarrassed that her sister asked.
"No, we're going to have to tell you eventually," I replied sombrely, "It's been a pretty hard day for us, especially him. He's in our group. His brother died today."
One of them gasped out loud, the rest just raised their hands to cover their mouth in shock, and the kids, not understanding what it fully meant just sat there staring. Luckily the normal chatter of the other group had resumed otherwise Felix would've been able to hear me.
Someone changed the subject and they continued talking as I stared out the window again tuning out the world.
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..............
It's the end of the term...
And when I started this "chapter" it was the start... oops?
In my defence I had hard subjects this term AND I had no inspiration from the walking dead.
I tried really hard to get this chapter done tonight because it's the last weekend I can write before I go away for 3 weeks, but I'll probably write more on those holidays :)
And I'm really tired now, if you can't tell by the quality writing of this chapter.
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
The recommendation of the chapter izzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....................
