"Come on, we are going to be late!" I said while playing with Billy's hair as he was... well...
He got up for air and looked at me from below. "Don't tell me you're not enjoying this," he sighed, wiping his mouth.
"Oh I most definitely am enjoying it, but I told Mike and the others I'd go to their weird meeting thing today."
"Fine. One quick round though?"
"Billy I have to go."
"It'll be quick!" He promised.
I sighed and gave into those dazzling eyes of his. "Alright."
——
I ran down to Mike's basement with Billy trailing behind me."Sorry I'm late," I said. "I was just busy uh...doing stuff."
"I can attest to that, I was there," Billy said. "I was the stuff!" He smirked. I smacked his chest. "What? They're like 15, not five."
"Anyway, what's the issue?" I asked.
"I had a bad dream," Will said. "It was a few nights ago but I didn't want to tell you because I didn't want to ruin your party."
"What was the dream about?" I asked.
"An apocalypse." He replied. "There was nothing, and no one anywhere."
Billy scoffed. "People get bad dreams all the time, we shouldn't worry about it."
"I'm not finished." He said. "Then I saw Nicole. She looked young. Maybe even younger than me. She seemed lost and was calling out for people."
"Oh my gosh." I whispered. Was Will's dream about that deserted land I time jumped to all those years ago? I started asking Will more questions about the land. Everything he said matched what I saw when I was a kid.
"Nicole what's going on?" Max asked.
"Guys, remember how I told you I got stuck in time a lot? Well for about two years, I was trapped in some apocalyptic world. I tried not to think about it for the longest time. How can Will be dreaming about it?"
"Will is linked to The Upside Down, so maybe the apocalypse is due to the mind flayer... or something worse!" Dustin said.
"Wait, guys I just remembered something," I spoke up. "I also got stuck in the void, remember?"
"Yes Nicole, we get it, you get stuck a lot," Billy said sarcastically.
"Yeah I got stuck with you," I mumbled. "Anyway, the person who got me out was Eleven. Clearly she doesn't remember any of this. The El that I saw was older, and she looked strained, tired and weary. She told me to jump to the year 1986, which is this year. If she wanted me to save Hopper and Billy, then why would she have me jump an entire year after they died? What if she sent me here to help prevent the apocalypse from happening?"
"It's a likely possibility," Dustin said.
"Yeah a really likely one," Lucas said.
"So how do we stop it?" Mike asked.
"Do I look like I know?" I replied.
"Can you ask future Eleven?" Mike asked.
"Son, I am not even going to think about attempting to time travel while there is a child inside of me. There is so many things that could go wrong and I don't want to take that risk of losing her."
"But if we don't figure it out, she might not even be born!" Mike exclaimed.
"Alright cut it out, frog face, she's not going, final decision." Billy said.
"But..."
"It ain't happening!" Billy yelled.
"Fine. Then just describe to us everything you noticed while you were stuck there," Mike sighed. "Every detail is crucial."
I hesitantly recalled everything from those days. Billy held my hand through the whole explanation, seeing as it was hard for me to talk about. It was better than being in the void thought at least there was light.
"Okay so we know now what our doom is going to look like," Dustin started. "However, what we don't know is what causes it and how to stop it."
"We're gonna die." Lucas stated passively.
"Shut up, we aren't going to die." Max scolded.
"Eleven, can you use your powers to try to find the mind flayer or whatever else could be the cause of the apocalypse?" Mike asked her.
"Yes," She replied softly.
"Okay stay down here so you can focus, everyone else: TO THE KITCHEN!" He exclaimed while pointing up and leading us upstairs.
I stayed behind for a moment to hug El. "You Can do this, I believe in you. You were able to find me when I was trapped in there. No one knew where I was or that I even existed, but you somehow did, and you gave me a second chance at a new life. You gave Billy and your father a second chance as well, and now, you're giving the whole world a second chance. You're a hero El. We love you!" I told her.
She nodded and smiled before putting the blindfold on. I walked upstairs to hear Karen's voice. "Oh... Billy. I didn't know you were here. Did you come with Maxine?" She asked awkwardly.
He chuckled. "You could say that," he replied. They are so awkward. I am about to make it even more awkward.
I walked out of the basement and was greeted by Karen's fake smile. "Nicole!" She exclaimed. "You're here too! Oh that makes sense!"
"Hi Kar—uh I mean Mrs. Wheeler." I said.
She then looked at my baby bump. "How adorable!" She fake smiled even wider. "You two just make such a lovely pair."
"Thank you," I replied with a smile of amusement.
"Well I should be going now. It's good seeing the both of you. Together." She started walking away. "Young love!" She cheered and started laughing. Billy and I awkwardly laughed with her.
She probably hated me. It's ironic because she loved me so much when we were kids. It was probably because she was so lonely. She was always trying to seek adventure. She dared to dream and take risks. That's probably why she wanted Billy. He's a fiery soul. And despite Karen almost sleeping with my fiancé, I couldn't hate her. She did so much for me when we were kids. She was an amazing older sister. I guess us sisters just happen to have the same taste in men.
Wait we can't be sisters because that would make Eleven her sister as well and that would make her Mike's aunt.... ew.
"Guys are you coming or are you gonna keep making out over there?" Max yelled jokingly from the other room.
"We're coming, geeze!" Billy hollered back whole rolling his eyes at me.
——
I can't believe when I finally found happiness, I face a major threat that could easily just throw everything I worked so hard to get down the drain.Would I live long enough to get married? Would I live long enough to give birth?
Shut up Nicole, you're being paranoid.
There was one thing I knew for sure. I was going to see my child grow up.
