Goddamnit. I did it again. He didn't even have to say phony words like "I love you" or anything this time. He just had to exist and I would immediately fall.
Nicole what is wrong with you? You're a respectable person and you shouldn't let that dipshit use you.
Oh but it just felt so perfect. He felt perfect. He looked perfect, he sounded perfect and he smelled perfect.
But he's a douchebag.
Unfortunately both are correct, which is why I have no idea what to do. I keep telling him no, but he knows I want him, and he won't back down.
I've never been one to fall for guys solely based on how attractive they are. So what was so different about stupid Billy Hargrove?
Maybe it was the fact that I couldn't read him. Everyone thinks he's an open book, when in reality he's a total mystery. I can never tell what he's going to do next. Is he going to flip out for no reason, or maybe he'll be overly kind for no reason. He does things without reason and it drives me insane.
"You know after just getting out of the shower, I'm feeling awfully dirty right now." Billy said smugly. "Maybe we should try again."
"No Billy I'm done for real this time. I have to focus on getting back home so that you can return to your seventeen other girls."
"They're alright but you're my favorite." He said.
"I'm not your anything." I said rolling my eyes before closing them and picturing the time period we were supposed to be in. "Give me your hands," I said reaching out.
"Not my anything, huh?" He said. I ignored him and focused.
99...98...97...
I opened my eyes to see myself in Billy's room, holding his hands. When I turned my head I saw the kids with their jaws dropped looking at Billy and I.
"What just happened?!" They asked in unison.
"The problem has been solved." I assured them with a smile. I am getting pretty good at time traveling.
Billy and I explained everything that happened. Well not everything... that wouldn't be appropriate.
"Holy shit so you're like a pro time traveler now!" Dustin exclaimed.
"Uh no. I still don't know how I was able to do it in the first place. I guess we are just lucky that it played out okay." I told them.
Max was looking at Billy intensely. "Billy..." She said with a stone cold face.
"Maxine," he replied with the same energy as her. They started at each other with out blinking for about a minute before Billy blinked and they both started laughing followed by a hug.
"Sucks to have you back, jackass." She said.
"You're a little brat." He replied.
After the kids left, Billy went to his room. "You can join me if you'd like." He said with a wink.
"You're a pig," I replied while going into Max's room. I slept with him two too many times. Maybe it was time I stopped letting him get to me and found someone who actually cared.
"Is something wrong?" Max asked as I sat on her bed.
I just sighed. "What do you think of Steve?"
"Steve Harrington? He's kind of a dud but he has a good heart. Better than Billy I guess."
I sat up. Did she know about Billy and I? "What do you mean by 'better than Billy'?"
"I just mean that Steve is a good guy and Billy isn't.... why..?" She asked suspiciously.
"Oh no reason..."
"Yeah right. Are you going to try to get with Steve? You barely know him."
"Yeah but we did fight evil together. Isn't that how you and Lucas ended up together?" I teased.
She scoffed. "Okay go for it. He's pretty cute and would treat you right."
"Should I...?"
"Sure why not?" She replied.
"Okay. Yeah. Maybe I should see him." I said while getting off of the bed. "I'll go right now."
"Get it girl!" She teased.
I left the house and took Max's bike to Steve's. I wasn't exactly sure where it was, but I knew the neighborhood he was in and I knew what his car looked like.
I found his house and hesitated before knocking. Eventually I figured it would be alright and I knocked.
He answered the door shortly after and looked surprised to see me. "Hey..." I said softly.
"Hey," he replied. "What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to see you." I replied.
"Okay cool, come on in." He said.
I entered his house and it was huge. He awkwardly showed me around and finished with his room.
"So uh, this is my room aka where I sleep." He joked. There was a brief moment of silence as he sat on the bed. "How are you, Nicole?"
"I'm good. Everything is good. Things are good."
"Yeah I'm not buying that. How's Billy?"
"What about Billy?"
"Nicole... I see the way you look at him, alright? I'm not stupid. Well for the most part." He said with a kind smile.
"I don't know what you're talking about..." I said, unknowing of what to do. He knew I had the hots for Billy.
"Alright that's fine, you can play dumb. You don't have to admit anything."
I sighed heavily and sat down next to him. "I'm sorry Steve." I said looking at him sympathetically.
"Nah dont worry about it. I'm used to rejection at this point."
"What?! You shouldn't be! You're like really attractive, funny, good with kids... the list goes on. I mean if I didn't... well you know... I'd definitely go for you." I said trying to cheer him up.
"Yeah but there's always someone else..." he said softly.
"Steve, stop comparing yourself to other people. You're the whole package, but sometimes that package gets delivered to the wrong house, and that's not your fault at all. Even if the person likes everything that's in the package, they know it's not what they ordered and there's someone else waiting for their package to arrive."
"That is the most inspirational metaphor I've ever heard." He laughed.
"Yes well I am a wise old soul who has lived in some interesting eras."
We spent the rest of the night joking around. Steve was definitely a great guy to hang out with. Why did I choose jackass Billy Hargrove over sweet Steve Harrington?
I've always been an irrational person I guess. Despite Steve being more respectable, I still love Billy and there's no doubt about that.
The phone rang abruptly. Who would be calling at this time of night? Steve hesitated to answer.
"Oh come on, chicken." I said while getting up to answer.
"Steve?" I heard a girl on the other end ask. Her voice was oddly familiar
"Max?" I questioned.
"Nicole! Good! You need to come home, we have a problem."
