Aziraphale sat in his bookshop on his knees with tears streaming down his face, the angel shook with sobs. Crowley didn't make it and it broke him, he was almost frozen in time on that floor. He felt his heart snap in two and felt as memories and thoughts swirled through his brain. He shakily stood up, blood still coating his hands and walked to the sink as he turned on the tap he watched as the blood disapeared down the drain. The smell of iron hung in the air, and the knife lay uselessly on the floor next to a puddle of crimson. Aziraphale coughed and clicked his fingers miserably, he couldn't look at this anymore, as he clicked the knife, blood and the smell were gone.
Aziraphale sighed and went to lock the door, his hands trembling as he fought the lock - he gave up eventually. Aziraphale sat on his sofa and put his head in his hands, it almost burned without Crowley, knowing he wasn't coming back. Aziraphale heard the door click open, he just didn't care as tears tumbled out of his eyes and poured down his cheek. "Aziraphale, afternoon" Gabriels cocky voice filled the room over the quiet sobs. Aziraphale didn't answer, he couldn't find the words.
"Oh come on Aziraphale, he can't have meant that much he was a demon, they aren't capable of love" Gabriels speech just made Aziraphale slip deeper into his thoughts. "Leave me alone Gabriel". Gabriel looked the angel up and down "no, you know what no this is wrong, he's gone and you still love him okay. Enough is enough if you won't listen to me I'll make you listen to me"Gabriel spoke harshly and his voice was cold. "Gabriel get out" Aziraphale spoke quietly. "No this is ridiculous, you will listen to me I am an archangel" Gabriel roared at Aziraphale and he shook his head"You don't deserve to be one". Gabriel was impossibly full of rage "I didn't want to do this Aziraphale, but desperate times call for desperate measures I suppose".Aziraphale gulped but stayed put and silent. "Stand up Aziraphale" Gabriel ordered, Aziraphale didn't move. "Stand up Aziraphale!" Gabriel shouted at the angel but he still didn't move, Aziraphale assumed Gabriel was going to kill him and honestly he didn't care anymore, he had no Crowley so there was no point being there. "Slave, Stand up!" Gabriel screeched and Aziraphale stood bolt upright, completely straight and silent, all feeling lost from his voice when he spoke "Yes. Sir".
Gabriel nodded "you left me no choice Aziraphale, good memories weren't they, shame I messed up Jack a little too much" Aziraphale looked at the floor, he was reliving his childhood nightmare and it terrified him to his core. He trembled slightly as Gabriel paced the floors. "now seen as Slave works better than your name, I'll do what I did when you were a child" Aziraphale shuddered at the name and reference as all the memories flooded back to him. "You never told him did you slave?" Gabriel loved every minute of taunting Aziraphale, he was almost in a trance. "No. Sir" Aziraphale said once again no emotion in his voice, he was terrified of Gabriel as a child, he was just getting over it.Aziraphale stood still like a soldier for hours, he didn't feel like fighting Gabriel, it never worked before. Gabriel eventually left for the day but returned to "mould Aziraphale into a model angel"as he put it everyday for at least a week , it was actually just bullying and slavery- not that Aziraphale recognised that or was strong enough to fight his fears and tell Gabriel. After 6 days Aziraphale has shrunk back to a shaking mess, there was no Crowley and it burned at his soul everyday more and more.
On the 8th day it was a monday and Aziraphale was working hard in the shop, when the bell rang. He didn't look up from his task of taking books out of boxes and stacking them, he had already done at least 600 and his hands were red and sore. "Angel?" Crowleys voice hit Aziraphale like a brick wall he had longed to hear it, but now he just didn't know how to react. Well he did Gabriel had taught him. "Hello sir" was all he said, the joy lost from not only his voice but his demenour. Crowley looked puzzled and spoke again "angel? You okay there its me I'm back" Crowley was so confused -why wouldn't the angel answer properly? - why did he call him sir? "Yes sir." Was the only reply he got, as Aziraphale continued working. Crowley raised his hand, holding his glasses to check for fingerprints in the sunlight, Aziraphale flinched harshly and sunk into himself slighlty, crowley placed them on the table.Crowley thought he was dreaming, he hoped he was - did Aziraphale just flinch at him?! "Hey angel I won't hurt you, you know me okay calm down". Aziraphale just stood straight once again like a soldier ready to march.
Aziraphale gasped suddenly "Crowley?" The demon nodded and Aziraphale relaxed and pulled him into a hug crying "I missed you so much, how are you even here?" Aziraphale had so many questions as he spoke into Crowleys suit. The happiness seeping back into his voice slowly. "Missed you too angel, that doesn't matter now why were calling me sir? and you flinched". Aziraphale pushed Crowley behind a bookcase quickly and Gabriel strolled in nonchalantly, he pushed over a stack of books "slave, pick those up later" he said and smirked as Aziraphale straightened up and stood still, "yes sir." He answered once again all sign of happiness destroyed. Crowley coudnt explain the anger he felt - "slave?!" Who did he think he was, but more importantly why did it work on Aziraphale so well. He whispered sadly "Aziraphale..."Gabriel laughed evily "any contact from that demon, slave" Aziraphale shook his head "no sir" Gabriel nodded, Crowley cringed everytime Gabriel said that foul name. Gabriel then reached out and slapped Aziraphale really hard making tears well up in the angels eyes, as the sting spread through his cheek. Crowley wanted to stab Gabriel but he knew Aziraphale would need company when Gabriel left. "Don't lie to me slave! What are these then?! Hm! "
Aziraphale winced as Gabriel dropped the glasses and stamped on them roughly "yes sir" Aziraphale said yet again. Gabriel grinned at the shaking angel at his command "I'll be back slave" he said and walked out "yes sir".Aziraphale whispered before walking to the fallen books kneeling down and picking them up gently rebuilding the pile. Crowley had appeared beside him and held out his hand to offer the angel help to stand. Aziraphale shied away from him, terror evident on his face "what has he done to you angel?" Aziraphale stayed quiet until Crowley picked up a book. "No sir, that's not for you to do" he said softly and took the book, placed it back on the pile and stood returning to his stance. He had a bright red hand mark across his cheek. "Angel, its not for you to do either" Crowley knew snapping out of this one trance wouldnt be as easy, Aziraphale stood facing Crowley but his head was hung "may I go back to work sir" he asked and Crowley frowned harder "angel, you don't have to ask me and you don't have to call me sir". Aziraphale nodded "thank you sir" and returned to work, Crowley sighed how could Gabriel break an angel like that.
