Serena took one last look in the mirror, closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "Everything will be ok", she told herself as she grabbed her backpack and headed for the door.

It was her first day of senior year. Normally this would be exciting for her, she would see all her friends, and welcome her last year of high school with happiness. However, Serena's parents had split when she was about six years old, so she always had to move back and forth from a small town in Tennessee to Bay Area, California. She hadn't seen her dad since she was ten, and now he wanted to spend time with her?

She cautiously walked down the stairs trying not to make any noise so her dad didn't wake up. Last night was the first time she'd seen him and forever. They spent all night talking, and she knew he had to be up soon so she let him sleep and decided to walk to school, it would give her time to think.

She went into the kitchen to grab an apple but saw a brown lunch bag with a small letter printed on the front of it,

~ have a good first day honey! I'm sure you'll make lots of new friends, & if you don't.. Well then I can always ditch work and come to school with you kiddo. I'm kidding, you'll do great, love you!

-dad

Ps: I'm not really used to packing lunches so if it's completely un-eatable, I left a 20$ on the counter ~

She laughed to herself at her dads attempt at being "super dad". Grabbing her bagged lunch, and slipping her boots on, Serena left for her first day of school. Walking out of her house she almost forgot where she was. Compared to her house in Tennessee everything was so lavish and big. She pulled out her phone and "Richmond High" into navigation. Feeling silly, she put her headphones in her ears, and blasted her music to the loudest it could go.

Finally arriving at school, she looked at her watch and noticed she was late to her first day of school by 10 minutes. Sighing she headed to the front office. "This is going to be a long day", she practically whispered.

The lady at the front desk looked at Serena with confusion. "I'm new here? My name is Serena? Can I have my schedule?", Serena said for what seemed to her as the bazillionth time. "Oh, the girl from Tennessee! I was waiting for you! Take a seat and I'll help you out in a second sweetie", one of the elderly ladies said from the back of the office.

Serena looked back and took a seat on one of the black chairs lined up against the wall and put her earphones back in, just as two boys walked in. They looked alike, could pass as brothers or cousins. They stood at the front for awhile talking to the lady that couldn't seem to understand anything, and then took a seat next to Serena.

"What are you listening to" one of the boys shamelessly asked Serena. She pretended she couldn't hear so it wasn't looking as if she was trying to hard. She felt stupid for overthinking so much and took out one ear phone and said "It's probably something you don't listen to"

" try me" the other boy said. Serena felt her face going red. She hated how easily intimidated she got and quickly responded, "Taylor Swift". No one said anything for a second, and Serena looked up at the two boys waiting for a reaction. The two boys then erupted into a massive fit of laughter. Serena felt like hitting her head into a wall. 'Of course they've heard of Taylor swift, they live in the bay area not under a rock' she thought to herself. "Hi I'm Myles Parris and this is my brother Jake" Myles said in between laughter. Serena exhaled, and smiled then replied going, "Serena"

"so are you new?", jake asked. "Yeah I just moved from Tennessee, how'd you know" she answered. "We're pretty well known here, we know everyone" Myles said right before Jake could say anything. "That's cool, I'm glad I met you guys, don't know anyone at all". Jake laughed and said something Myles didn't hear. He was so zoned out, focusing only on what Serena was saying. " Are you alright?" She asked him. Myles snapped out of it, and fell out of his day dream. " Sorry " Myles said turning light pink, " You're just so different". "Different!?" Serena almost shouted. The boys laughed again, causing Serena to turn into an even deeper red. 'Today can't possibly get worst' she thought to herself. "good different" Myles said confidently, with a sly smile on his face. Feeling more like himself, he got up and said " come on I'll show you to your first class". Almost on cue the administrator in the front called out for Serena. "sweetie I have your schedule and Id printed out for you" she said with a giant grin. Serena walked up to the front desk, thanked her and turned around. " Ok, let's go"
