Chapter 38:
22 May 1968
ADALINE'S POV
Today I was having all of the Beatle-wives over for lunch and a play date for the kids. Due to everyone's schedules we haven't been able to get together as often as we'd like, so today was long awaited.
"Mo! Pattie! It's so good to see you both!" I exclaimed as they got out of the car. "And there's the kiddos!"
"Zaky!" Mady yelled as she ran over to him.
"He's been looking forward to this all week." Mo said with a smile as she picked up Jason. "Thank you again for having us over."
"Of course, we all need to do this more often."
"I completely agree! Is there anything I can help you with, Addie?" Pattie asked.
"Well, I have everything made, the table is set. I just have to bring out drinks and the food."
"Let me help you with that. You don't want to be pushing yourself."
"I still have two months until I'm due! I'm doing okay." I told Pattie as she followed me.
"If you say so.."
A few minutes later she and I came back outside to see Cyn had arrived with Julian.
"Cyn! We didn't realise you were here yet!"
"We just got here. Oh, it's so good to see you all. I can't tell you how much I've been looking forward to this." She said, sitting down at the table.
"I second that." Mo said, sitting next to her. "Lunch looks great, Addie."
"Thank you." I looked over at Madelynn, Zak and Julian who were playing in the yard. "Come on, kiddos, it's lunch time. You all can play after lunch."
All of us sat and ate lunch. Once we were finished the kids went off to go play and the four of us were able to have the talking/gossiping time we needed.
"Cyn. Is there something wrong? You look off.." Pattie asked her.
"There is..." She hesitated for a moment. "It's John..The other night I came home from my usual running around to find him with another woman..They were doing some odd recordings. And of all things I found her wearing my robe!" She yelled angrily, but small tears formed in her eyes. "John's been differently lately and now I know why...I can't stand it.."
"Oh, Cyn..Just let it all out." Mo rubbed her back lightly and handed her a tissue.
"I packed bags for Julian and I and we left. We've barely spoken since. I know this is going to end things." She wiped her eyes. "I saw little signs within the last few months, but I never wanted to believe it. I don't understand why. What did I do?" She began to sob.
"You did not do anything...You have done so much for him. He's just being an idiotic man who's too blind to see the wonderful life he has." I looked to her. "You know John, he's..."
"An asshole?"
"Sometimes, yeah..."
Cyn let out a small laugh and wiped her eyes. "I just know this is the end of it. I just have to accept it."
"You know that no matter what we're here for you." Pattie smiled. "We've all been together since day 1 and we'll be together until the end."
"We will. No mater what."
We all smiled. A few minutes of silence went by until Cyn spoke up again.
"Enough about that. What's new with any of you?"
