Josie
After talking to Payton, I treated it like hanging out. I didn't want to read anything into it. I went to classes and spoke to Britt, along with Parker and Selena. I figure that way; I wouldn't have to deal with issues.
I was walking on campus as I saw Payton sitting on a bench. He waved to me, and I walked over to him.
"Hey," he said to me.
"Hey," I said back. I noticed the two Slurpees that he had with him. "Are you thirsty?" I asked, pointing to the Slurpees.
He looked at them. "I thought you would like one," he mentioned as I looked at him, surprised.
"Are you sure?" I asked him.
He shrugged as I walked over and sat down next to him. He handed me the drink, and I sipped on it as he sipped on his.
"This makes me miss home," I mentioned.
"Why's that?" Payton asked.
"I used to get these all the time," I answered as I smiled.
"Same," he added as we sipped on our frozen drink. "I had to look all over town for a 7-11."
"I see you found one," I chuckled as he laughed.
"That is the perks of Michigan. You have things other states don't have," he told me.
"Exactly," I said as we kept drinking our drinks.
"Look, Josie, I'm sorry for how I treated you. I wasn't very nice to you when we were in school," Payton apologized as I stopped mid-sip. "I would like it if we could be friends."
I stared at him in stun silence.
"Or not," he said.
"No, I'd like that," I blurted out as he chuckled. We sat there and talked for a while. We ended up telling each other jokes. It was nice to talk to Payton like this.
Eventually, I went back to my dorm room. I had to remember this was only friendship. Payton doesn't see me as anything more.
Payton
I walked back to the house as I sipped on my Slurpee. I hadn't laugh as much as I did with Josie. She has a quirky sense of humor and understood my jokes. That was a plus.
I walked in as Shaun came out of the kitchen. "Where's my Slurpee?" He asked me.
"At 7-11," I answered as he rolled his eyes.
Parker walked into the house and noticed the Slurpee. "Where is mine?"
"The same place Shaun's Slurpee is," I told him.
"You're a tool," Parker told me.
"I had to drive all over creation to find a damn 7-11," I told them.
"Does this have anything to do with a particular girl?" Park asked.
"I think it does," Shaun said as they both looked at me.
"I bought Josie a Slurpee," I said casually. I walked by them.
"Oh, he bought Josie a Slurpee," Park said to Shaun.
"You know what they say when a guy buys a girl a Slurpee when they're 'just' friends?" Shaun asked Park.
I stopped and turned around to face them.
"No, what do they say?" Park asked him.
"That it must be serious," Shaun replied as Park nodded.
"I'm trying friendship with her. That's all," I told them.
"If you say so," Park said as Shaun smirked at me. I shook my head and went upstairs.
"He likes her," Shaun said.
"No, shit. Now, it's time to help prove it, and nothing says proving it like jealousy," Parker told him.
"Should we interfere with this?" Shaun asked him.
"It's our duty as a Gray to interfere. The one thing Grays are notorious for is jealousy," Park informed him.
"I think we're going to need help," Shaun suggested.
"And help we shall get," Park mentioned as he pulled out his phone and made a call. Who better than enlisting help from the people who know something about it, our damn family.
Parker
I made a call as Shaun listened in on the conversation. The people we called agreed to help us. If you want to help two people get together, you invite others to help, namely cousins.
After a few hours, there was a knock at the door. I answered it to find Matthew and Markus standing there.
"Damn, they're hot," Shaun mentioned as I gave him a look.
"Don't even think of it, twinkle toes," Markus mentioned.
"Meet Matthew and Markus Harper, Shaun. Matthew is Aunt's Lyric's kid, and Markus is Aunt Larkin's kid," I introduced them.
They walked in and sized up Shaun.
"Are you the twit who has a thing for our baby cousin?" Matthew asked him.
Shaun didn't know what to say.
"Word of advice. Don't hurt him, or we will hurt you," Markus warned him as Shaun gulped.
"Oh, knock it off, you idiots. He's survived the demon twins and Presley," I mentioned as they started laughing.
"Good luck," Matthew chuckled as I rolled my eyes.
Before we talked further, I heard Payton's door open and shoved our cousins out of the front door.
"Where's Park?" Payton asked Shaun.
"Oh, he went to get a Slurpee," Shaun told him as I rolled my eyes. Payton chuckled.
"Yeah, we're going to have to go somewhere else," I told them as we left the front yard and started walking. As we walked, I explained the plan to them.
Markus stopped us. "Wait, you want one of us," he gestured between himself and Matthew, "to pretend to date this girl to make Payton jealous?"
"Payton won't make a move unless he has competition," I said.
"You remember he has grandpa's temper, right?" Matthew asked me.
"Grandpa has Grampa Nate's temper. What's your point?" I asked him.
"My point is, I don't want to be on the receiving end when Payton finds out the truth," Matthew said.
"Then keep your trap shut, and he won't. I talked to Grammy, and she was the one that gave me the idea. She said Grammy Gray did the same thing to her and Grampa Nate," I explained.
"I swear this family is crazy," Markus said.
"You're just now realizing it?" Matthew asked him as Markus shrugged.
I pulled out a picture and handed it to them. My cousins looked at it.
"She's cute. I'm in," Markus said as we looked at him.
"Good luck, Markus," Matthew chuckled.
"Don't even think about it. You're only making Payton jealous," I reminded him.
"Relax, it'll be fine. I'm helping our twit cousin, so he gets off his dead ass and makes a move," Markus said.
"Good thing you both are going to school here, or this would be so much more difficult," I told them.
We walked while discussing our plan. The plan of making Payton jealous was about to kick off with a bang. Sometimes people need help, and in Payton's case, a lot of help.
